Q. Well, you saw the Bandon Dunes experience today with the wind.
KIARA ROMERO: Yeah.
Q. I mean, how much adjustment did you have to make with your game?
KIARA ROMERO: I think it just like adds a little bit more thinking and kind of a game plan to just really make sure you know your numbers out there and you know when to hit those knock-down shots when you're into the wind.
Q. Was there a turning point in the afternoon match where you felt like it turned or you got the momentum?
KIARA ROMERO: I think coming in -- making the turn. That's kind of when I started winning a few holes back to back. My game was kind of rolling all day, like even with the morning match and stuff, so I've been pretty confident with my shots and everything.
Q. World No. 1. A little bit extra pressure this week with that moniker to your name, or no?
KIARA ROMERO: No, not at all. I don't really like to put expectations and think about that stuff at all. Just want to go out there and play my game and do my best is and have fun out there.
Q. You obviously won the Girls Junior a couple years ago. You know how to handle a day like this. What do you enjoy so much about match play? You're clearly a proven player when it get to this point of the championship?
KIARA ROMERO: Yeah, I think it brings out the aggressiveness in my game and just being able to attack every pin and not a lot to think about, and just kind of put the foot on the gas right from the start.
Q. Why did you chose to have -- I know your sister is playing this week, but to have Coach on your bag, what's the reason you chose him this week?
KIARA ROMERO: I think just knowing him so well as a person and our personalities go really well together out there. He also has like really good course knowledge.
But I think mostly he just brings a lot of good vibes out there and keeps it light and takes off the pressure.
Q. Three hours from campus. Do you guys get down here much to play here at all?
KIARA ROMERO: This is actually my first time being here.
Q. Oh, really?
KIARA ROMERO: Yeah.
Q. How did you prepare for Bandon? Videos or would Derek have known about the course or...
KIARA ROMERO: No, not at all. I think just practice like normal, yeah.
Q. Yeah. When you kind of are looking at going into tomorrow, again, a little bit different than the Girls Junior, tomorrow is not a 36 hole day, but what's the preparation you have, sort of the first break before the get into the quarters?
KIARA ROMERO: Yeah, I think it'll be really good to get some rest and just sleep a little bit. This whole week has been a big grind and I know the whole week is -- what was I saying?
Q. How the whole week has been a grind.
KIARA ROMERO: Yeah, yeah.
Q. Is a day like today a little more fatiguing because the wind and the conditions?
KIARA ROMERO: Yeah, for sure. It definitely took a lot of thinking out there just trying to keep the brain quiet and not have too many thoughts.
But also being able to calculate all the wind and numbers correctly. It definitely takes a little bit more time to hit each shot out there, and you just really have to stay patient. It can get pretty frustrating when you hit a good shot and it ends up 50 yards left the green because the wind is blowing.
Just have to stay patient.
Q. On the mental side of things I feel like you've always been really ahead of the game, ahead a lot of your peers. Where does that come from, being able to handle the adversity, the ups and downs, wind taking control of the ball and whatnot?
KIARA ROMERO: I think the mindset kind of comes from playing against my older siblings like all growing up. I was the youngest, so I would always be a little bit behind and just be kind of the underdog against them. Just I had to be -- I had to learn how to be patient and just learn how to fail and keep trying to win my way back.
