Quick Quotes

Q. Congratulations. You're into the championship match.

BROOKE BIERMANN: Thank you.

Q. I know you're a human resource major, but did you think about majoring in drama? Your matches -- third extra hole match you've won.

BROOKE BIERMANN: Yeah, I lean hard on those two I went into extra holes and I was just like, okay, like the other side were like lucky to be going into extra holes, and I was like, okay, like I stayed calm through those and just like relaxed.

I was like, I got to do that today. Whatever it is, it is. You know, coming down the stretch she threw everything she had, which was great golf, and with that, you just have to stay calm and also like I guess only focus on what I can control. Because I can control what she's doing, so I just tried to focus on hitting good golf shots which I think I still did.

So, yeah.

Q. She made two great putts on 17 and 18 on you. The one on 18, nobody thinks -- I mean, that's a 30-something-footer.

BROOKE BIERMANN: I mean, what a putt to keep it rolling. Being from Missouri I know her, and so it was a fun match. I mean, that putt on 18 was great. She had to make it and she did.

You know, I guess that's what makes match play exciting.

Q. Obviously you have been able to turn matches around. Early in the week you had a missed putt and still won. Did you do the same mindset when you got to the tenth tee there?

BROOKE BIERMANN: Yeah, my dad was just like walking from 18 to 10, like Brooke, calm down. You didn't do anything wrong. She's doing great.

So perspective. I played really good and those last holes are crazy wind, so just trying to focus on the positives once again and like the good shots I was hitting, stuff like that.

Q. How tough was it to kind of bounce back after 16? For a minute there it looked like this thing was going to end there after her tee shot.

BROOKE BIERMANN: Yeah.

Q. Did you find your mind wandering a little bit to maybe...

BROOKE BIERMANN: Not really. That was a great shot for her out of that bunker to get into that position to get up and down from there. Great.

You know, with that wind nothing is ever a given, so I was just like, you know what? I'm going to try to run it up that hill, and didn't get all the way up there and it came back. The chip checked a little more than I thought it would. I knew what I had to do. I knew I had to probably par -- from where she was I knew I probably had to par; I didn't.

But I don't know, because once again I just tried to focus on myself and like to just sort of -- I don't know, sometimes you can -- all you can control is yourself and that's what you got to focus on.

Q. I know you guys played 36-hole days in college. Now you have a 36-hole match tomorrow. I don't know if you ever played a 36-hole match in your life. How do you get prepared for a long day like that?

BROOKE BIERMANN: Yeah, I'm very thankful college golf has trained me for 36-hole days. Definitely coming into freshman year I was like, what the heck? These are so long and stuff.

Playing in those the last four years has definitely helped me, and probably even the one 36-hole day a couple days ago playing in college helped me.

Q. 41-hole day.

BROOKE BIERMANN: You're right, a 41-hole day. So I know that like mentally and physically I can handle it, so like it's just you got to mentally check in. It's just, it's similar to college.

Q. Yeah. I'm sure you know Megha.

BROOKE BIERMANN: Yeah.

Q. Play before or anything?

BROOKE BIERMANN: Yes. I played with her a lot in college.

Q. In college?

BROOKE BIERMANN: Yes.

Q. Just college?

BROOKE BIERMANN: And junior golf.

Q. We talked a little bit about how sometimes you're a little bit demonstrative when you're playing. Also seem to kind of exude joy on the golf course. Where does that positive attitude kind of almost no matter what's going on? Even walking off 18 I had a smile on your face.

BROOKE BIERMANN: Yeah, if I'm not happy, I don't know why I would be doing this. I mean, all I'm thinking, like walking up 18 is two little cute deer babies and I think their mom -- I was more focused on that, probably my fault.

But very cute and to me I was like what is special place. Whatever happens, happens. I'm here, I'm with my family. Like feel like I already won in a sense with like what a great week I've had.

So like it's all perspective I guess. Yeah.

Q. You finally made a cut; five USGA events and not made a cut, and now you make a cut and you're in the finals.

BROOKE BIERMANN: Yeah.

Q. Would you have believed that six days ago?

BROOKE BIERMANN: I told my dad, I just need to get over that hurdle, and the hurdle was the cut. I know myself. I've played in several match play events and I've gotten to the semifinals multiple times.

Like I know that like -- I love match play. Like that's where the fun begins. So I believe that I could do this, but, yeah.

Q. Would Megha have been DCP when you were there?

BROOKE BIERMANN: Drive, Chip & Putt?

Q. Yeah.

BROOKE BIERMANN: She could have been.

Q. (Indiscernible.)

BROOKE BIERMANN: Uh-huh.

Q. What year do you do it?

BROOKE BIERMANN: That's a great question.

Q. I can look it up.

BROOKE BIERMANN: 2018 maybe.

Q. You were in the oldest division.

BROOKE BIERMANN: I think so, yeah.

Q. Did you always believe ever since you started golf that you could achieve something like you could potentially do tomorrow?

BROOKE BIERMANN: Maybe. I mean, I've always had this like crazy dream. Like my parents have given me so many great opportunities and like we've gotten -- when I was very, very young I went to the U.S. Open at Pinehurst and I watched the men. Like what an amazing experience.

Q. '14?

BROOKE BIERMANN: Uh-huh. I was like, this is so cool. Like I think I want to do this. When I was there my dad told me, like you're going qualify for the U.S. Open one day paragraph I did, so like I think that -- yeah, I do think I can -- I have dreamed big enough and I do think so. There have been questions along the way, of course. Of course.

But that's golf and that's life, yeah.

Q. What's the biggest adversity you've had to face to college with your golf game?

BROOKE BIERMANN: Yeah, well, I feel like junior year I was really like mentally struggling. Just was like having a rough time.

But my -- we went to the National Championships still. Looking back it was a great year. Mentally was going through some tough times.

But my parents picked me up right after the national championship and drove me home. I think I said yesterday, no one knows you better than your parents. They help you, pump you up, and give you confidence. I took a little break from golf.

Then last summer, I didn't tell anyone I was playing, like not even my coach. -- that I was playing in the Missouri Am. I went out and won it and qualified for Southern Hills last year.

My coach called me and she was like, you didn't even tell me you were playing in this. I just need that had one time of no expectations. Like just I'm going to go play. No one is going to know I'm out there.

It ended up working, so maybe that.

Q. You obviously told your parents you were playing.

BROOKE BIERMANN: Oh, yeah. My dad caddied. I just want to have like a fun, enjoyable time. That's when I think I play my best golf.
