Q. Dean, summarize the morning session for us.
DEAN ROBERTSON: Well, the weather went flat calm. So from a five-club wind, we went to California again. So I was thinking what's going on?
But it was a brilliant performance. Collectively, we were 15-under par for our four foursomes matches there. And the match that lost, the third match, were 5-under par on their own ball and lost to Watts and Miles Russell. Such is the standard, which is incredible.
I've been at a lot of golf tournaments. I've played in The Open Championships. This is extra special. The Walker Cup has arrived at Lahinch, and the people are super supportive. I'm super excited just to be captaining it.
We're all ready for this afternoon. I've submitted the teams. I'm not sure when they're announced, but you're going to see some real tasty lineups.
Q. What did you like out there this morning? What are you loving?
DEAN ROBERTSON: Just the players in foursomes, you've got to keep the ball in front of you. You've got to play smart. You've got to just give yourself chances, and that's what they did.
There's some risk-and-reward holes. Hole No. 7 in particular, they all showed discipline, and it was really good. I think there was only two bogeys in the whole of the front nine from any of the four matches, which is incredible given that we've just been battered senseless for the last five days. But the bodies are there. The crowd, they love it.
This afternoon, I think the wind's going to be up a little bit. I certainly do hope it gets up a little bit because it's going to challenge them even more, and Lahinch is going to be able to beat back and the pars are going to become premium. They need to be putting the balls in the right spot.
We're 2 1/2-1 1/2 ahead with the flat calm weather, I'm ecstatic about that. That's a brilliant start for us. There was a couple of moments there in the first match. Stuart Grehan and Eliot Baker were 1-up on 16, and the U.S. made a brilliant birdie. Then we missed a short putt on 17 from four feet, and then Preston Stout missed about a six or seven footer for birdie at the last to halve the hole. So that was a big moment for us.
Then it was -- I think it was Miles Russell that holed the putt on 18, and that was gutsy. That was a huge, huge point for them. We could have been 3-1, but it's 2 1/2-1 1/2. I'm happy.
Q. Perfect. What's the vibe like with the team? Everyone up and about after that?
DEAN ROBERTSON: Yeah, they're all just refuelling right now. Everyone is just focusing on what they need to do this afternoon. There's not really any vibe as in up or down. It's just we've got a job to do. This is a series. One is done, and then we're on to singles. That counts for 18 of the 26 points. So we've got 8 points to play for this afternoon, and we're going to be busy at it.
Q. Focused is what I'm getting from that?
DEAN ROBERTSON: Hundred percent.
