Q. 3-under 69; what was working well for you?
GABY LOPEZ: Very solid off the tee and into the greens. We hit a amazing iron shots. We were hitting it pretty close. Made a couple putts, tap-in for birdie and then a couple others, maybe 15-footer for birdie.
So you know, unfortunately I had like a little hiccup on one of my holes but being able to make six birdies and hit 16 greens has been solid.
Q. How did you recover from that? I saw you started with a birdie, had that hole we won't talk about and made another birdie?
GABY LOPEZ: I made a triple. My caddie said, welcome to links golf. You just have to be very, very disciplined. You have to know exactly when to get an unplayable lie and drop and wherever is even better from the lie you were.
I didn't. I tried to hit it and the ball, it just got worse. I tried to literally just forget it because I knew I was hitting amazing shots. I knew I was going to be patient and I was going to have opportunities and we made three birdies after that and being able to recover like that was really positive.
Q. To be honest you've had struggles this season and you've bounced back and playing some good golf again. What's changed?
GABY LOPEZ: I've been struggling the last few months. Physically has been really, really a struggle. I have a wrist injury and had a back injury and didn't want to pull out for medical status. I just wanted to keep it going but just taking my pace. I know that gaining and recovering my confidence has to be shot-by-shot and being able to focus on the next step and not being able to focus on the result or the place I want to finish on, has been key.
I've just got to be able to be kind to Gaby and I've got to be able to be patient. The good golf is out there and I've just got to take it one stroke at a time.
Q. What's the mindset heading into the rest of the week?
GABY LOPEZ: Depending on the wind and the weather, if you have a day like this tomorrow, you'll be able to make a lot of birdies, and if not, you've just got to be able to play with the wind and being able to be patient. Yeah, you've got to respect this golf course.
