Q. All right, a 70, 70 to start off this Women's Scottish Open for you. How are you liking the links so far?
ALLY EWING: Yeah, I mean, it's always a good test of golf. It's a patience game. And then you just -- you know, you have to take whatever the weather is and do your best at it and have to really fight.
I think regardless of circumstances, how you're playing, it's just the type of golf where you get creative and go do your best.
Q. Looking at the scorecard, it seems a very kind of consistent way of playing. Is that how you're feeling out there, or is there more grinds than the scorecard is alluding to?
ALLY EWING: No, yesterday I made a couple of really good par putts. But overall I've given myself a lot of looks. You know, I think with the wind and just, like I said, the variability of circumstances and everything, it's just a lot of patience. And then, yeah, the more opportunities you get, obviously, the more hopefully you can convert.
But, yeah, really consistent and just hoping that the game plan and the mentality keeps working.
Q. Obviously links golf is to different to France, but what do you take away from your time at the major last week heading into this event and just the European swing in general?
ALLY EWING: Yeah, I mean, the golf course last week, I played really well the first round, and then the second round I didn't feel like I played that bad, it's just kind of the golf course and, you know, everyone knows what you're getting when you get there.
So I just think out here it's kind of you might get some unpredictable bounces, but it is a patience game, and it's target golf and just, you know, trying to execute shot after shot and not get ahead of yourself.
Q. Are you one to like the links? Do you like the challenges of it? Or is it one of those that I'm glad we come here once a year and that's okay?
ALLY EWING: No, I do like it because I feel like it is a grind and it can be a challenge. And if you have a really good mindset and you know that, you know, it can be really crappy out there sometimes, you just take it for what it is and go do your best.
So, you know, I feel like I'm a grinder. I'm the type of person where I try to make the most of whatever I have that day. So I think links golf definitely -- I wouldn't say it gives you an advantage to do that, but I think at the same time it's a lot about patience and good mentality to start the day.
Q. And I know a lot of times when we come over to Europe, it's kind of by ourselves. I know Charlie was with you last week at Evian for a little bit. How much was it nice having him as your guest, and is he around for the rest of the European swing?
ALLY EWING: Yeah, he was just out for the weekend. He had done some recruiting. But he is back home getting ready for school to start, freshmen to come move in. So I'm alone this week, but I will have my sister-in-law and mother-in-law out next week. So that will be nice to see some family faces. And we'll have a good time. My sister-in-law lives in London right now doing interior design.
So, yeah, we are going to have fun on the weekend. I think I'm going to see them Monday, so we'll get the day started Monday with some breakfast, and then I think they're going to come down to Surrey later in the week.
Q. Thinking about what is coming up to this weekend with some forecasted weather, and with Scotland you never know what's around the corner, how do you prep for a weekend, knowing the forecast, knowing, like you said, the links are a challenge, it takes the patience you're going to need?
ALLY EWING: Yeah. Make sure you have plenty of towels stuffed in the bag. And then, you know, it's just kind of it is what it is and you go and you put your best foot forward and try to stay really patient, try to hit, execute shots and not get ahead of yourself but also not linger on bad shots or whatever.
Because elements like that, you're not going to execute every shot perfectly. The wind and the rain is not going to help you execute every single shot perfectly. So it's just kind of taking it for what it is and grinding your butt off basically.
