Jenny Shin

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Jenny Shin; nice round of 69. A whole lot of pars there right until the end. Tell me about your last few holes.

JENNY SHIN: Yeah, you're right. I think I par'd every hole on the front nine. At least I didn't bogey.

It was a struggle. I mean, it was playing very tough out there. Like there were certain holes where you can't be on the right, wind is blowing left to right.

The wind definitely made it harder. It was so much colder today. So there were a lot of factors that I didn't really even consider when I came to Portland.

But aside from that, I had a really good round. Didn't have any three-putts, which is a huge plus. I was truly worried about that.

And, yeah, it was good.

Q. I don't know if I've ever heard a bogey-free round as a struggle before. What were you working on?

JENNY SHIN: Well, I was more talking about my back nine. I had a really good opportunity for birdie and I missed a couple of those, so I was like, There aren't many birdie opportunities out here.

I did struggle for par putts here and there, like No. 8, the par-3. I think I had a pretty clutch par putt.

Even the 9th hole. I blew it past the pin by like six feet, and that's not the putt that I wanted to have on the last hole.

So, yeah.

Q. And this is also a big physical test out there. How are you putting up with the hills?

JENNY SHIN: I'm a huge fan of hiking, so I'm just thinking of doing my hobby out here really. To be honest, there is so much going on on the golf course you're like constantly trying to strategically play in a certain way.

You're worried about the wind, what club am I hitting; you don't realize you're completely out of breath.

Q. You came in off a couple weeks off. When was the last time you tee'd it up?

JENNY SHIN: British Open.

Q. That's what I thought. Saw you were in Jersey seeing your coach. How did you spend the down time?

JENNY SHIN: The first week I was painting my newly bought house, so that was fun, but at the same time very (indiscernible). I mean, six hours of painting, not fun, but I'm very happy with the outcome.

The second week I spent some time with my boyfriend and family in Philly, and then obviously the third week I spent sometime with my coach in Jersey.

Q. Working on anything in particular or just a tune up?

JENNY SHIN: We have been working on, you know, this particular swing. The process is pretty slow because we're in season and not trying to change too much, so it was a lot more maintenance than anything.

I got to play Liberty, so that's a plus.

Q. Those are some amazing views. You've got amazing views here. I would think that's got to be a fun part of the job, you get to go out to cool places like this and Liberty National and do your work.

JENNY SHIN: Yeah, this golf course is gorgeous. It's magnificent. Like it's very hilly so that's sucks, but the views are phenomenal.

Happy to be out here.
