Quick Quotes

Q. We are joined by Brittany Lincicome after a solid opening round, a 4-under 67 here after round one at the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer. Brittany, you had a double bogey on No.4 and then bounced back with six birdies; bogey-free the rest of the way. Take us through the rough start but then getting back on track.

BRITTANY LINCICOME: Yeah, it super funny. It was in the tall fescue grass and I had a decent lie. Like I could get the club on the ball and there was nothing behind it. Obviously it was super below my feet and I didn't really calculate that in.

I hit it and I'm looking, I'm like, Where did it go? My caddie is like, I don't know. Where did it go? Apparently it only went like a foot in front of me. I don't know if I ever done that before. It's funny now; wasn't really funny then. Something I haven't done in my career, but there is always firsts.

Yeah, the birdies after that, you know, it was just like, okay, let's get it back to even par. I got back to even par and I was like, okay, let's try to get a few or birdies on this side.

Then I had a couple good birdies coming in, which was really nice.

Q. How much focus does this course require?

BRITTANY LINCICOME: Requires a lot. You know, tee-to-green there is not -- it's not as intimidating. It's just the greens. They're so subtle and you think you're aiming left edge and then it breaks across the hole from three feet and you're like, Holy cow.

You really got to pay attention to what the green is doing, and even three-footers you have to pay attention to. You can't take anything for granted out there. You got to focus on every putt.

Q. You won here before and then you shoot a 67 on the first round. Just how much confidence does that give you going into the weekend?

BRITTANY LINCICOME: Yeah, it's great. Obviously we can't win it on the first day but you definitely can lose it and shoot yourself out of contention. Obviously under par is great. I need two really good days the next two days. This course is -- everyone is making birdies out there. Everyone on the tour now goes so low that I'm going to have to bring my A game for sure.

Q. Why do you play so well here?

BRITTANY LINCICOME: That's a good question. I don't know. I think it's -- I mean, it fits my game well. It's not -- there is a couple long holes out there but there are some birdie holes that are pretty short, which is nice.

Just take it one hole at a time. When I'm out there I don't feel like it's my kind of setup, but it really does fit my game really well.

Q. When everybody is making a lot of birdies, which seems to be the case today, is it hard to stay patient out there and not press and say, Boy, if I don't birdie this hole I'm in trouble basically?

BRITTANY LINCICOME: Yeah, for sure. Like I said with the greens, every putt out there, even if it's three feet to whatever, you just never know what it's going to do or if it's going to go in.

So felt really great making the birdies that I did on the back. Feel good going into tomorrow. You can definitely see the groups behind us. Hannah in my group made eagle on the last. Got to have your A-game every day.
