Q. Just a really strange situation. Can you just tell us what unfolded there in the scoring area.
MARK MULDER: Well, I mean, I got done and people kept telling me, you're going to a playoff. I was surprised because I figured I needed 40-ish points going into today. I thought I needed 40 some points in order to win or get to a playoff.
I only got 37, so I got done and they're like, wait you're at 138. I'm adding it up in my head and I'm like, this doesn't make sense. The scorer I guess put down a 3 on 7 and I made double. My caddie told the scorer a couple times. They asked and we corrected it, but I guess it was never adjusted somewhere else.
So I knew where I stood, but the scoreboard said something different, and so I was just basing it off what people said.
Q. Right.
MARK MULDER: That was really about it.
Q. You made I think six birdies; is that right?
MARK MULDER: I think so, yeah. It's kind of a blur, but, yeah.
Q. On a tough day, obviously did it feel good just to get in the hunt?
MARK MULDER: Yeah, because today was by far the hardest day of the course.
Q. Yeah.
MARK MULDER: So I don't know, there has been a lot of years playing in this thing where I kind of mess up the first day or two or have an off day. I know at some point I'm going to start hitting the shots I'm capable of doing, so it's nice to do it. It was just too late. Put myself in a hole.
The scoring system, it's kind of a stroke play unless you make eagle. It's hard to catch somebody. Mardy and I were talking about on the front nine. With four, five people in front of us you would have to go 40-something just to scare somebody.
It was a lot and we knew it was. You kind of get it going and see the ball go in the hole and start to believe in yourself, so it's a lot of fun. I love the feeling. It just wasn't quite enough.
Q. Are you familiar with Jeff's game?
MARK MULDER: I mean, a little bit. There was a tournament that him and I bunch of friends of mine did at the Ritz Carlton at Orlando a few weeks ago which I know he played well.
I've never played with him. I know he's a really good player. Just like anything, coming into something like this, the fact that he handled it the way he did is pretty impressive.
So it's awesome to see another baseball guy win this thing. You know, Derek Lowe and I always joke, just want to see more baseball guys. No matter what sport, I would like to see the baseball guys up there.
