Q. Here now with Leona Maguire after her first round here at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. How does it feel teeing it up for the time in 2025?
LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I mean, any day you're under par it's always a good start to the year. Gave myself a few chances. Putted pretty nice today. Left a few out there I would say, but overall pretty happy with the start.
Q. Being a resident of the area, is it kind of nice to come out here, do what you got to do, and get to relax back at home?
LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, absolutely. Nice to sleep in my own bed this week just around the corner. So I mean, I've been back here for about three weeks or so now. The course is changed quite a bit over the last few weeks. It's nice that we actually got some warmer weather. It's been playing pretty long, pretty soft for the last few weeks.
So it's starting to dry out a bit more and starting to play how we know it can play. It's one of those you kind of almost are trying to forget how the course was playing couple weeks ago and focus on what it's playing now.
Yeah, nice to start the year and end the year in Florida.
Q. Offseason, how was it? What did you work on? Anything fun?
LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I mean, I went home for three weeks. Went to Ireland. Trip to Vegas. Did the College Golf Hall of Fame. Got an honorary doctorate back home in Ireland.
Q. Small things.
LEONA MAGUIRE: It was a busy sort of leadup to Christmas. Then it was spend time with family and friends around Christmas which was nice, and then back out here early Jan and get ready for the season again.
I mean, it seemed like we had a lot of time off, six weeks or so, but it went by really fast, as it always does. Nice to have sort of a couple extra weeks to sort of get ready and work on a few things before we start again.
Q. How does the game feel? Anything out there that you know you like still need to work on this? Anything that's working really well right now?
LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I mean, took advantage of the par-5s today apart from 9. Working on a few things. Obviously still fine tuning. It's nice to get a test here to see where the game is at.
Drove the ball pretty well today, which I didn't quite do well enough last year. Made a bit of progress on that. Holed a few nice putts.
Yeah, overall it's pretty good. Not too rusty. I would say chipping was a little bit rusty today at times.
Not bad for the first round of the year.
