Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Nelly Korda after her second round here at that time Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. Take us through the round today. I know you had a solid round yesterday. Even better today?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, just capitalized a little bit more, made some more putts, hit a few more solid shots today.

It's definitely playing a little softer and longer compared to years past. Hit some really solid shots and just capitalized on them today.

Q. Is there anything you've been working on in the offseason that you're particularly pleased how it's coming to go so far?

NELLY KORDA: Not this offseason, not from my -- from PNC to now. It was just taking a week off and then kind of getting back into it. I tend to get a little laid off at the top of my backswing. First week back I was just kind of drilling so just doing a lot of technique so I wasn't getting laid off at the top of my swing.

The week after that I was just playing a lot. So nothing too particular that I was kind of dialing in this offseason. I made sure that I spent a little bit more time around the green, and that's kind of what I want to do with the six weeks or seven weeks that I'll have as well.

Q. Did you work with Jamie? Did he come to Florida ahead of this week?

NELLY KORDA: He came once during the week of the PGA so last week for Tuesday. Then I also have David Whelan at home and I work with him on short game. It's nice. Even though we may not be working on anything just really nice to have him there. I mean, I always say my golf swing is actually his golf swing. He's the one that built my swing, my tempo. All props to him.

Q. Your father of course is a professional athlete; sister plays golf. Talk about the role of sports in your family, especially as you were growing up?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, it was big. My parents just wanted us to stay active. Anything that we were doing, to do outside. I think that's where our competitive nature kind of formed, is by playing a bunch of sports growing up.

So having have them as well knowing what life as an athlete is like, people that you can lean on is really nice.

Q. Was it important to still balance academics with the sports? How did you handle that?

NELLY KORDA: I actually finished my senior year of high school playing what was back then Symetra Tour, now Epson Tour. For sure, yeah, that was something that they prioritized. They wanted us to follow our dreams. With sports I feel like the train passes at a certain time and you have to jump on when you can. If you wait too long it's too late and your time passes.

Q. How is the new driver treating you in the first two days?

NELLY KORDA: I played the Qi35 yesterday and went back to my Qi10 today. It was just some things that I need it dial in a little bit more, so just went back to my old trusty.

Q. How much of that contributed to you playing a little bit better today?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, I think if you're not confident in one part of your game it kind of leaks to everything else. Not saying that I'm not going to put it in for the rest of the year, but there is just a couple tweaks that I want to do to it before putting it in to actually play for my whole set to be confident.

Q. How are you adjusting to competition mode now?

NELLY KORDA: My feet hurt a little. There is no better tournament than this tournament to kind of come back. New season, it's more easygoing, playing with someone like Kevin Millar and D Lowe where you've known them for so long. This is my sixth year playing this event so friendships have formed.

It's a little bit more easygoing and it's so fun to play alongside them.

Q. You mentioned the sixth year here. Four top fours in that time. Is it the feel, the vibe that goes on out there? Is it the fact it's in Florida that helps? A combination?

NELLY KORDA: I think being mentally fresh, having my family out here, having a great support system all plays a part in performing well.

Q. One for fun. I heard you get a marriage proposal yesterday.

NELLY KORDA: I did.

Q. How often does that happen?

NELLY KORDA: Not too often, but D Lowe shut him right down. I didn't say anything and he was like, Bud, I think that was a no. He was like, did I speak out of turn? I was like, no, that was a great answer.
