Quick Quotes

JENNIFER KUPCHO:

Q. Here with Jennifer Kupcho. What a day. I mean, bogey-free, eagle on the card. Let's talk about that. What happened on 10?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, I mean, I hit a really good drive and had a pretty short club in. I think still hybrid, but pretty perfect club, and it just like hit just short of the green and rolled up really close to a tap-in.

Q. I mean, ended birdie, birdie. That's always a nice way to end your day. What was kind of going through your head after that string of pars on the back?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, I mean, honestly, on those pars, all of them were very birdieable. I had at least two or three that were within ten feet, so it was kind of upsetting to not get those. Just trying to keep it rolling, so to have the last couple was really nice.

Q. Did you get kind of - I don't want to say frustrated; that's not a good word - but where you've got to keep yourself cool and level headed when those 10-footers aren't dropping, because those don't happen a whole lot.

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, I mean, definitely. I think I've been a lot better kind of just forgetting about it and moving on recently, so just out here having fun trying to not think about it.

Q. Which we will not think about it anymore. Played Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. Second start to the LPGA Tour season. How are you feeling with your game? What did you do during the off-season to get ready for 2023?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Nothing. (Laughter.) Yeah, I mean, seriously, I took nearly a month off before Hilton, and then really since Hilton, probably practiced probably ten days maybe.

So really just took my time off. I was really burned out at the end of last season, so kind of struggling and getting to love the game again, so that's really what I did.

Q. I know last year was a big year. How do you temper expectations? Three wins in one season and then you have to kind of reset. Sounds like you did.

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, I mean, definitely the last half of the season, I mean, I wasn't winning, so it -- I mean, you're not going to win all the time out here, but, I mean, it was just really hard for me.

I wasn't playing like I wanted to, so I really was just like struggling to have fun out on the golf course, so that's what I really was trying to bring into this year.

Q. And then just finally, 7-under, bogey-free. What does that tell you about the choices you made and where your game is if you don't have to practice but ten days and can go out and pull a round out like that?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, I think it's good that my game is I guess still there. I think if it was any other golf course maybe it wouldn't be there, but I think I'm really comfortable with this place. I played really well last year. It's fairly short, so I don't really have to hit long clubs and that's definitely where I struggle if I have to hit those after not practicing.

So that's cool, too.
