Quick Quotes

Q. You had a nice round obviously, 4-under to start the tournament. Birdies on 1, 2, 6, 15, and 18. Any particular one of those stand out in helping you?

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah, when I starting it's a little low temperature so feels a little tight. But, yeah, I just to keep the flexible and then, yeah, good feel.

And then I had a first birdie hole 15 on par-5, and yeah, I starting -- I had good start from there. Then, yeah, I got the good vibe. 10 hole was my first tee, and then when I turn the nine hole I had a good chance first three hole. I mean, first hole, second hole, third hole.

Yeah, and I, yeah, I played quite solid today. Yeah, I'm very satisfied with that.

Q. On 17 I was following along a little bit.

SEI YOUNG KIM: Did you see that?

Q. Yeah. I turned around and I was like, Oh, that's an easy one.

SEI YOUNG KIM: Oh, yeah. Yeah, I just try to tap in, yeah, finish, and it's lip out. I was like, What was that? I'm like little shock.

Yeah, I told myself how stupid am I. I mean, Paul's give me a, yeah, good emotion, so, yeah, I got the -- I don't fell down, so, yeah, just, yeah, keep doing.

Q. Good caddie to raise your spirits.

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah, yeah.

Q. When you had those shorter putts after that, did you mark them?

SEI YOUNG KIM: I did, every hole. I was like, I don't want to do again like that, so every putt I mark it and very focus on it.

Q. Really only have been two, maybe three players in history who have tried to peak their games around majors and been successful at it. Ben Hogan, Tiger Woods, and Jack Nicklaus. Pretty good company. Are you trying to do the same, get your game peaked around major championships?

SEI YOUNG KIM: You mean the -- what does that mean, the major champion?

Q. Major championships, ANA, U.S. Women's Open, KPMG, Evian, those majors. Are you trying to elevate your game to peak at that time?

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah, that's biggest my goal. That's what I want in the my career, so every time I try to win the especially the major tournament, but in this year I missed the ANA because too much think about it and too tight myself.

Even that I keep trying, yeah, follow them. Yeah, I want to win the -- what's the call win every major tournament?

Q. Grand slam.

SEI YOUNG KIM: Grand Slam, yeah. That's what I want. That's my biggest goal.

Q. So when you play tournaments like this leading up to a major, are you trying to get your game in shape thinking about a major a couple weeks from now?

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah, a little bit, but not -- not, Oh, okay I'm here for the major. Not like that. This is tournament -- whatever I play tournament I just focus on each tournament and then just, yeah, I'm just, yeah -- even major tournament I feel like, yeah, it's like same tournament.

Not extra put myself the pressure like that.

Q. Last time you played here was 2017. You said you don't quite remember it; you finished tied for fifth. What do you remember when you stepped on the River Course the first time this week? What memories of the course came back to mind?

SEI YOUNG KIM: At the time winner was Lexi Thompson. Yeah, she shot like 5-under, something. She's a really good play. So I was thinking, Oh, I need a really good play because of all the play are really good play.

And then, yeah, I like this golf course though. Good shape and then good result. Yeah, I'm very happy to back here. Yeah.

Q. This course is playing as firmly as any we've had this year so far. Everything has been soft until you get here and then the ball is releasing.

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah.

Q. That has a tendency to help good ball-strikers and you're a good ball-striker.

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah, when I practice round on Monday I first thought, Wow, greens are faster than last I play when I play, so -- and the green speed are very faster feel like, so, yeah, if I good striking I probably good putt, yeah. Yeah.

Q. What was it like playing in your group today? Two winners from this season. I know you've talked about how your goal is to win multiple times this year. How was it competing in such a special group?

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah, both are really good player and they are really competitive. Yeah, I'm always very -- what is that? I like to play the competitive player, yeah, so it was fun.

Q. Brings out the best in you.

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah.
