Lizette Salas

Quick Quotes

Q. Okay, here with Lizette Salas after her first round here in Texas. You got a little bit of a wind break, but seemed like you played some of your best golf early in the round when it was a little windy. Tell me about that.

LIZETTE SALAS: I mean, I've lived here for about six, seven months couple years ago so I was kind of accustomed to playing in this Texas wind.

Yeah, I knew the front nine had a little bit more character as far as like ball shaping and the par-3s are really crucial.

So I hit my hybrids really well. Putted the ball really, really well on the first nine, and then kind of plateaued a little bit on the back. I think that's just a little bit of later in the round, extra bumpy greens.

Pretty pleased with that solid start.

Q. Also, bogey-free today. How happy are you with that given some of those challenges today?

LIZETTE SALAS: Yeah, we actually came out with a really solid par on the first hole. I think that really gave me some confidence with my short game.

Yeah, just really short game is on pointe. I just made it boring reading the putts really well and, again, going off the momentum from last week and applying that to this week.

Q. You said good par on the first hole?

LIZETTE SALAS: Yeah. Meaning like I made a really good par on the first hole, left-to-right breaker. I think when I start making those left-to-right putts my confidence level just rises.

Yeah, my birdie putts weren't close either. I think the only close one was 11 on the par-3. My speed was really good today on these bermuda greens. All the practice I had for those seven months really paid off, yeah.

Q. How long would you say that first putt was? Was it really long?

LIZETTE SALAS: Probably a 10-footer, but left to right.

Q. How are the greens today? I've heard from others that the pin locations are a little tricky, but you seem to have managed that well, too.

LIZETTE SALAS: I think most noticeable thing that I've seen is that these greens are much faster. They're not as grainy, and, yeah, they're a lot quicker.

So I made a quick adjustment yesterday and got a little tip from a special guest yesterday, and it seemed to work.

Q. Who was that?

LIZETTE SALAS: Lee Trevino's son was out here yesterday. He walked nine holes and I said, what is the key to this golf course? He gave me two little tips that I'm just going to keep to myself. (Laughter.)

Q. Okay. Love that. I know had a good week last week, so how hard is it or what was your strategy for keeping consistent? New environment, new challenges here, but still really good golf from you.

LIZETTE SALAS: Yeah, again, I think my game plan just applies to a lot of different golf courses. It's more so my mentality: just rest up and know that this golf course really demands a lot of different shots and a lot of patience on the putting greens.

So I think that was the game plan from last week to this week, and just stay aggressive through my shots and stay committed to each and every one of them.

So that was the game plan, and just rest up for tomorrow and hopefully for a good weekend.
