Q. Here with Maddie Szeryk. Maddie, I know you fly under the Canadian flag, but you're a born and bred Texan. To do that in front of a hometown crowd, how does that feel?
MADDIE SZERYK: Pretty awesome. It's great to play well. My family is out here, my friends are coming out today and tomorrow.
Yeah, it's pretty special. I get to stay at home this week, which is amazing, and just to be to comfortable.
Q. Walk me through the day out there. Quite a few birdies on the card.
MADDIE SZERYK: Yeah, it was just really steady. I had a few good looks. I made like a 50-footer, which was kind of like up and over a hill. I was like, okay. I was happy with the two-putt on that one. I'll take the birdie.
Just played smart on some of the holes and just had fun and enjoyed myself and was comfortable.
Q. Obviously played a lot of Texas golf in your time.
MADDIE SZERYK: Yes.
Q. How much of an advantage do you think that is knowing how to play in these windy conditions with greens that are slicker than snot?
MADDIE SZERYK: Yeah, they're holding well but some of them are very firm, and just knowing, like, okay, this is -- trusting that it is going to run up, and landing it short.
And I definitely grew up in the wind and so I know -- I think it definitely helps and just being confident in it.
Q. Had you played Old American before this week? Obviously this tournament has been around a while.
MADDIE SZERYK: Yeah, so this year they let me come out and practice and play here, so when I was home couple times a week -- it is 35 minutes, so not every day, but a couple times.
So just knowing some of the weird bounces and being comfortable with some of the more aggressive lines.
Q. How excited are you? Three more rounds. In the mix already. But a lot of golf left to play.
MADDIE SZERYK: Yeah.
Q. What's the mindset heading into the next three days?
MADDIE SZERYK: I think just the same that I was doing today. Just going out and playing my game and not focusing too much. Like I didn't look at scores this morning. I won't get too focused on that. Just focusing on my game and that's all I can control.
I can't worry about what everybody else is doing. Just playing my game and knowing I'm going to make a few mistakes and that's okay.
Q. What is your game? What's Maddie Szeryk golf look like?
MADDIE SZERYK: My putting has been really solid, and just I get frustrated, but knowing that it -- like it fuels me, like it helps me go to next shot and be like, okay, I'm going to get this back. Yeah, aggressive.
