Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Jodi Ewart Shadoff after your first round here in LA. Top of the leaderboard. Really just went off and shot an 8-under. What was going on? What was the key out there?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: I think everything was just clicking. I hit my driver really great and I gave myself a lot of opportunities. The putter just got hot, so I was giving myself a lot of opportunities and just rolling it in.

So, yeah, felt good.

Q. A lot of the players have been talking about challenges out here. What were some of the challenges out there today? Obviously you overcame them, but what were they, if anything?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: It was a little bit breezy this afternoon, but the green complexes are pretty tough. I mean, you have to hit it into the right spot on the greens, and I did that today, so I gave myself a lot of opportunities from close range.

That definitely helps.

Q. What was the key on that eagle there on 14 and all the par-5s today? So you birdie or bettered all of them.

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, that eagle really kick started my round. I hit a 3-wood to about ten feet and rolled that in.

Then just kind of got hot from there.

So I miss-hit a 7-iron on No. 1, but other than that, I just played really nicely all day.

Q. You just had four birdies in a row coming off here.

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah.

Q. What was happening on those holes?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: I just felt really relaxed today. Everything was just kind of flowing. I was just rolling it really well with the putter.

Just helps when everything is just gelling together, yeah.

Q. How important is accuracy out here on this course? I know you hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens.

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah.

Q. How important is that going to be all week?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: It's definitely the biggest factor out here, I think, putting yourself into the right part of the greens. As I said, they're pretty difficult and there is a lot of undulation, and just kind of being safe when you have to be safe and being aggressive when you can be.

So, yeah.

Q. How important is this tournament for you as we head into like only the last couple events of the season?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, definitely. I mean, obviously looking to play CME at the end. I think I'm in a good spot, but getting off to a good start here definitely helps, so, yeah.

Q. How often have you played in LA, and what is it about LA courses and this course that I think suit your game in general?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, I mean, I play the event in Wilshire and the event in PV and I play pretty decent in both courses, so I kind of like the trickiness of the golf courses.

You know, you have to be a good ball-striker around here I think, and I think that just plays to my advantage a little bit.
