Q. When did you officially join the Modest Golf team?
ANGEL YIN: January 1, 2021, this year.
Q. Why were they a good fit? What were the values that they had that drew you to them?
ANGEL YIN: I signed with them because Olivia Cowan, who was my friend, signed with them I saw on Instagram and I messaged her about it and she was telling me about how Modest is and how great it is, and I was like, oh, that's really good.
Talked to them a little bit more, talked to Mark a little bit more, and they're mostly based in Europe, but they've been wanting to extend to the U.S., so I was like, oh, okay, they had a lot of interest in signing me. So I was like, oh, that's really cool.
And then because they're so -- they're not really just focusing on golf, but they're very well-rounded as a company. I just thought that it would fit me as a character and who I am well because they obviously have a lot of activities mostly off the golf course and obviously on the golf course, and just felt like that fits me really well.
Q. Is there something off the course specifically that you have a passion for that you related to them in the process of signing with them?
ANGEL YIN: I have a passion of having fun. It just seemed like they have a lot of fun. They just do a lot of extracurriculars. For example, they're into the music industry. I'm not a singer or musician in any sense, but I just felt like they have a lot of things to do. I like hiking, I like fishing. I do a lot of things outside the golf course and I just felt like there's a connection between the two. Obviously they're in the music industry, I'm not, but I just think because they have so many activities outside, it would fit in perfectly.
Q. Obviously like you said with all the endeavors they have off the course, but on the course, too, they bring in equal purse for men and women, they're bringing same courses, you guys are kind of -- it's a mixed event, in a sense. How special is that in the growth of the game?
ANGEL YIN: No, it's spectacular to see what they're doing for the game of golf and how they're growing it. Having an event with the men and the women on the same venue, it's quite special, and the same purse, equal purse, it's like tennis, and it's really cool to see and it's special to see because obviously us women have been fighting for remotely close to having similar pay, not equal pay, but trying to just go to even sniff what the men are making. I feel like we deserve that, and I feel like we deserve the same spotlight because we can offer a lot, we just haven't had the opportunity to show everyone, and when people get to see us finally in the same spotlight, I think they will really enjoy watching us and enjoy our game.
Q. Have you ever been to Northern Ireland, and if not, how excited are you to be here?
ANGEL YIN: I've never been to Northern Ireland. I'm excited. I've heard lots of great things about Ireland, how beautiful it is. Game of Thrones took a lot of scenes from there. It's very with nature, a very, very special place and very pretty, so I'm excited to go experience that.
Q. Is Game of Thrones an Angel Yin favorite?
ANGEL YIN: No, I've never watched Game of Thrones. I just wanted to throw it in there.
Q. I'm not sure if you saw the video of Niall and Amy Bockerstette yesterday. Amy has Down syndrome and she's a golfer. She was surprised by Gary Woodland at the Waste Management Phoenix open a couple years ago to play in the pro-am with him, and she was surprised by Niall yesterday, or recently.
ANGEL YIN: That's really cool.
Q. They're flying her and her parents over to Northern Ireland. She's going to hit the ceremonial first tee shot on Thursday and she'll be around all weekend to watch. I'll send you the video, but when you hear that the founder of company that you're partnered with does something like that, what does that mean to you?
ANGEL YIN: It just feels really special because he's really taking the effort to grow the game of golf, and not just the game of golf but everything. He's doing something like this for somebody -- he doesn't have to do it but he's doing it out of the good of his heart and it's just very special to see. You can tell how good of a person he is and how very kind and not just -- it just tells you that's someone I want to associate myself with.
