Gemma Dryburgh

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Gemma Dryburgh. Wonderful round from you today. Just take me through what was feeling so comfortable for you here at Aviara Golf Club?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, pretty much everything, to be honest. I think I hit every fairway. I think I only missed one green, so pretty solid. I just was hitting it very well.

And yeah, nice few putts went in as well. Kind of everything was working today.

Q. Couple birdies actually throughout. What was that like for you? Sometimes players like the consistent, the momentum that a couple in a row brings.

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah.

Q. Being able to space it out, did that help you get through the rounds and relax any nerves?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, it was kind of nice having them spread out, like you said, kind of here and there, so not just all in one bunch. So kind of just gives you positive energy for the whole round I would say.

Q. We saw you at the Drive On Championship. We haven't you in a couple weeks. We were just talking off camera. You just moved to New Orleans.

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yes. Yeah, literally last week, so all change for me. Finally got a base in the States, so don't have to go back and forth U.K.

Should be nice to have a place here and kind of on weeks off be able to go there rather than kind of bumming on couches and stuff. Be nice.

Q. Coming back, you've played Aviara twice before. This is your first round in the 60s.

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah.

Q. How confident are you in your game at this moment, and what was it about today that you think really took fire?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, feeling really good. It's actually playing a lot different for me than when I was last here. I'm hit it a little bit further, so some of the holes are playing a little bit different than what I remember them, I think in 2019 I played last.

So that's kind of nice. Makes it a little bit easier. I took advantage of that today, so, yeah, it was good.

Q. I know you just said last week you moved into a house. Not a lot of time to really pick yourself up and come out here to Carlsbad. What were you working on heading into this week?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, so thankfully my parents came to help me move, so they kind of did a few bits and pieces while I practiced, which was nice. Kind of took the pressure off.

Obviously when you move into somewhere there is lots to do, so they kind of took that pressure off and I could work on my game at the same time, which was great.

But, yeah, mainly been focusing on my putting I would say. That kind of the main the last six months or so as well.

Q. What goes into working on your putting for you?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, well, I do have a putting coach back home, so we work a lot together. Also working on -- I do Aimpoint, so always kind of perfecting that and calibrating that every week.

So speed is a huge thing. You can get some fast putts downhill here. So, yeah, just kind of a combination of everything really.

Q. That's really been one of the storylines all week are the greens in particular.

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yes.

Q. When Inbee comes out and says, Don't take the greens personally this week...

GEMMA DRYBURGH: I saw that.

Q. Being able now to get more familiar in all this work that you put into your putting, how much was it a relief when a challenging greens course like this, you're just coming out on fire?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, it's great. Good confidence boost obviously putting well today. Last out tomorrow so the greens might be bumpy, so just have to take that in my stride with the poana greens.

Just try to put a good putt on it, and that's all you can really do sometimes. Just got to trust yourself and go for it.
