Jenny Shin

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, pleased to welcome Jenny Shin here to the media center at the JM Eagle LA Championship. Jenny, really solid round you put together out there. Can you just tell me a little bit about the day. What was working so well?

JENNY SHIN: Yeah, I holed out on No. 2 after the birdie on the first hole. I was like, all right, 3-under after 2. When is the last time I did that?

Yeah --

Q. You mean 11, right?

JENNY SHIN: My second hole.

Q. Just making sure for my reference.

JENNY SHIN: No, you're right. Yeah, and I thought, it's going to be a pretty good day, so I kept plugging it. And I was shocked with a 9-under par to be honest. Before I tee'd off I was looking at the scoreboard and I was like, jeez, I didn't really see that number.

But, yeah, I guess if you do that, you can definitely shoot 9-under par, so...

Q. What's the key to a low score out here? Is it sticking it close? Is it sinking long putts?

JENNY SHIN: Definitely shots were pretty good for me today. Had a lot of putts inside 15 feet, 20 feet. Surprising number of short clubs on the par-4s. And long clubs. It's a good mixture of clubs out there.

But par-5s, you know, very gettable, so if you birdie and eagle the par-5s and make sure to birdie the short par-4s it's definitely, yeah, definitely low score coming in.

Q. You said you didn't see a 9-under out there. What is it about this course that you thought maybe wouldn't make it so scorable?

JENNY SHIN: I tee'd off pretty late yesterday in the pro-am and greens were firming up pretty hard, and into the wind I had a few 5-, 6-irons coming into the greens. I thought, this isn't easy. I'm playing for a 15-yard release and these greens with get away from you pretty quickly. They're not small, pretty deep; at least 37 yards deep on a lot of the holes.

Yeah, that's what I thought. The wind wasn't as strong as yesterday.

Q. Yeah.

JENNY SHIN: And I think the adrenaline kicked in and I was hitting a little bit further today.

Q. Last question from me: How would you assess your game coming into the week, and especially after a good round like this?

JENNY SHIN: Yeah, pretty good. I felt really good coming in this week, but I try not to get ahead of myself because I felt really good at Arizona and ended up playing quite poorly.

So this is probably like my fifth event this year. You know, with being sick in Asia I feel like I haven't played that many reps of tournament golf, so, yeah, it feels really good. Game feels really good.

Hopefully I can continue to play well the next three days.
