Nelly Korda

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Nelly Korda after her second round. Tell me a little bit about the day. How was the course playing differently for you today from yesterday?

NELLY KORDA: Maybe just a little firmer. You know, I was -- started off the day really well and then in the middle of the front nine just had a little bit after hiccup with kind of a silly double and a bogey to back it up.

So fought my way back to even through 9 and kind of played some solid golf on the back nine.

Q. Yeah. Last hole I think you mouthed the words, I have no idea how that went in. Can you talk about the last putt?

NELLY KORDA: The par-4 on 18?

Q. Uh-huh.

NELLY KORDA: I didn't make it.

Q. No, your (No microphone.) Oh, I'm sorry.

NELLY KORDA: I wish I made it. That would've been nice.

Oh, the par-3? Yeah. That was kind of lucky. I hit it a little too hard on the line that I did and it kind of snuck in. Thankfully it got the high side of it so it lipped in.

Sometimes you just got to get lucky.

Q. Did the course play much differently today than yesterday? Was it about similar to what it did yesterday which was a little firmer?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, the greens are a little firmer in the afternoon, which is just standard how it normally is. Just with the morning dew you can be a little bit more aggressive with your irons.

But other than that, I would say maybe it ran out a few more yards on the fairways, too. Played pretty similar. It's similar conditions. Just cold out there.

And then obviously at the beginning of the day it's colder, so not flying as far. Then when you're in the afternoon at the end of the day it gets colder. So just kind of adjusting to that as well.

Q. There have been a fair amount of birdies the first couple days. Did you coming in feel like this course would yield as many birdies as it has?

NELLY KORDA: If you hit it good off the tee, I mean, there is a lot of bunkers out here, but if you hit it good off the tee you have a decent wedge shot in to be a little bit aggressive on these tough greens.

Q. What's the -- I know the greens are fairly undulating.

NELLY KORDA: Uh-huh.

Q. Did you find yourself having to hit fairly small quadrants to make sure you have a run at a putt?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah. If you get into the wrong part of the green then it's a very tough two-putt or very tough putt.

So making sure that you're missing in the correct areas is key as well. That's kind of another thing that goes into the decision making of what club to choose if you're in between, too.

Q. Much different forecast expected the next two days. How much will you have to change and adjust what you've done the last two days to be able to deal with those completely different conditions?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, I think you just take it how it is. I mean, we've played in some cold weather and played in some warm weather. You just know that it's going to fly a little further. Kind of just adapting to the situation at hand.

But we'll see. Sometimes it's sunnier but windy. It hasn't been too windy but just been quite cold the past two days. But sometimes when it's warmer it gets windier. You just never know.

I don't know what the forecast is for the weekend, the wind forecast, but you just have to kind of adapt to the situation and see how far it's flying on the range, see how firm the greens are playing as well, if your caddie goes/O out and scopes it out as well.

Q. You're obviously playing to win this week. In terms of preparation for next week, playing a golf course that like you said makes you think and you have to hit it in certain spots, how much does that help you for Chevron next week?

NELLY KORDA: You always have to think with golf. When you turn off your brain that's no good. I think it's good prep obviously playing a week before a major because you kind of see where your game is at, what you need to work on, what you need to focus on.

So, yeah, I mean, whenever you put a couple solid rounds together, a lot is about confidence as well as building confidence, sp always really nice going into big events.

Q. Your menu, the Chevron dinner menu. About the Czech pastry, what's the best one you've ever had?

NELLY KORDA: It's funny. Whenever I'm back in Czech I'm usually there around my birthday. If I do celebrate that's my birthday cake.

And I just love fruit filled dumplings. That's pretty much what it is. Something that I grew up eating and I just really, really love it. My grandma makes it so probably my grandma. That's the best one I've ever had.

Q. Was it important to you? Did you know when you were creating the menu that you wanted include something from your heritage?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, 100%. I wasn't sure exactly if I wanted it to be the main course or to be the dessert. But I just love that dessert so much. I'm very happy with the menu. Chef Keller was great.

Q. I was going to ask, how was it working with Chef Keller and was he receptive to all your ideas?

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, he was great. I met him two years ago or last year at Chevron, and he's been a great supporter of the LPGA. For him to do this, I mean, it's so special and so cool.

Q. What is a deli salad?

NELLY KORDA: Oh, that's like the Greek salad. Yeah, I guess that's his word for Greek salad.
