Q. All right, here with Gina Kim after her first round at the Maybank Championship. First time playing in Malaysia; right?
GINA KIM: Yes.
Q. How did you find the course, the conditions today?
GINA KIM: You know, this course is in really, really good condition. You know, huge shoutout to the superintendent and his crew for putting this together.
Yeah, I love the golf course. I've had good vibes ever since I landed in Malaysia. Today was a good start, so I'm feeling good about the rest of the week.
Q. What was it you need to do well on this course to be successful out here like you were?
GINA KIM: I think you definitely need to have some good ball striking, and then have some good putting. I would say those are the two strongest points today, just being able to place the ball well and putting myself in positions to make birdies and capitalizing on that.
Today was a good day where I could see some putts sink in the hole is it was good.
Q. You made a lot of birdies out there. Any stick out to you as being particularly important, places you had to make birdie?
GINA KIM: Well, I actually had a chip-in eagle today on No. 14. You know, I was in the rough behind the green and there was a slope going down to the hole and then another one after that. I'm like, shoot, let's just try to get this birdie distance and give myself a chance and we'll go from there.
It just kept trickling and eventually went into the hole. That's kind of how I started my day with a minus-2.
After that, I think was able to play a little more freely and attack the pins like I wanted to.
