Quick Quotes

Q. Talk about the finish. A birdie, birdie finish is a great way to wrap things up and gets you in second place right now.

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, and a really good par on No. 7. It was probably the only iron shot I missed today. We just got worn coming off of 7 tee, I don't know why.

Was trying to play a little fast and missed it kind of short right of the bunker and made a great up and down, and made a good six, seven-footer for par on 7. Made a good one on 8 and a good one on 9. Good way to finish off the day.

Yeah, I didn't really have any expectations today. I knew kind of how difficult this course can play. It doesn't seem that difficult, but it can always sneak up and bite you. I feel like I played tee to green was great today. Putting was good today. Just kind of all around did what I was supposed to do.

Q. Scoring average for the field is over par today. It's a nice day. The wind's not really blowing. Some of the top players coming in shot over par. Can you put your finger on why?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, it's usually a lot windier here this time of year. I've never seen the fairways as soft as they're playing, and on the other hand, I've never seen the greens as firm as they're playing right now. So it's a different combo for this place.

I guess with them kind of redoing the course right after we finish, the greens are going to get pretty spicy, I'm sure, this weekend.

But it was good. I love firm greens, and they've got some good pin placements out there to where you get a little too cute, you miss it short-side, and it's a really hard up and down.

Q. Talk about your game. Over the last month, at least I've seen, a positive upswing. You've got to feel really good about the way you're playing.

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, I played really well in Charlotte. That's always been a pretty difficult golf course for me to play. Really the whole week, played really well there. Didn't come close to Wyndham's score at the top, but third place finish in an elevated event was really big.

It's been trending in the right direction. Played good in some elevated events, and coming to a place this week that I really, really enjoy. I love the town. I love this golf course, and I've some good finishes here. I think it's trending in the right direction.

Q. Lastly, when you look at that Wall of Champions and you see names like Hogan five times, Nicklaus, Palmer, Trevino, Crenshaw, Watson, it would be pretty cool to have your name on the board, wouldn't it?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, really cool history here. I love how they really respect the champions and bring them back. It's really cool. There's not many tournaments on the PGA TOUR where we have a list of champions like that.

Spieth got me a little bit in 2016 by two shots. He birdied 17 and 18, so I was close to it. Hopefully I can get in the mix again this year and have a chance to put on that plaid jacket.

Q. Harris, you mentioned those couple of top finishes here, runner-up and another top five. Why specifically do you feel like this course fits your eye? What is it about it?

HARRIS ENGLISH: It reminds me of home growing up in South Georgia. The doglegs, a placement golf course. You don't have to overpower it. You kind of think your way, play chess out here.

I don't know. It just kind of forces me into some mid-irons, and that's kind of the strength of my game. I don't know what it is, but I just enjoy it.
