Q. Kevin, after 18 pars yesterday, 63 today. Assess your round.
KEVIN KISNER: Yeah, I went ahead and ended that streak on the first hole, so I got that cat done with early.
And made a few more there coming in and got a little hot on the back. Overall just a really solid day. Hit it nicely and rolled in some nice putts.
Q. Talk about the eagle on 15. Nice drive and the 32-footer.
KEVIN KISNER: Yeah, that's not one you're really planning to make. I knew I could be aggressive with the putt up the hill. Hope I can hit it there again Sunday when the pin is front left. It will be a nice tap-in eagle.
But it's always great to hit a putt from that distance, know you got the right speed, and it's got a chance.
Q. Was the putter the big difference today?
KEVIN KISNER: Yeah, I think I probably hit the ball about the same, probably closer on the approach. I really didn't make any putts yesterday. I rolled it nicely so I wasn't that frustrated, but to see them going in early certainly helped.
Q. Is this the type of round you've been waiting for most of your year?
KEVIN KISNER: Yeah, for a long time. Just been waiting for things to seem somewhat easy. I feel like all my rounds lately have been stressful. Even when I'm playing decent it's not been easy all year.
Hopefully this continues, this is the start of a new trend.
Q. Has there been anything you can put your finger on this year?
KEVIN KISNER: Yeah, I haven't hit the ball very well and not much confidence. Even when you do, I feel like I don't make the putt, so you know how it is. It's is difficult game trying to put it all together, and you got to capitalize on the weeks it starts to come together.
Q. Is this a round that can really boost the confidence moving into the weekend?
KEVIN KISNER: I still didn't feel that confident with the ball striking. Yeah, it's weird. I hit a lot of good shots but I don't have the mentality that I need to have to compete all four days, so I need to continue to work on it. That putter can bail you out.
Q. Can you put your finger on what it has been about the ball striking this year?
KEVIN KISNER: I just haven't been -- playing these long difficult golf courses, tons of majors in a row, trying to hit it further, quick out of the top, transition, same ole stuff that it always is. You hit some crazy shots and it's scar tissue that you got to get over.
Q. A lot of times bogey-free rounds are really good. Was that a bogey-free round that you weren't happy with?
KEVIN KISNER: You know, I wasn't mad about it. I didn't hit it close. I hit it 12 feet three times and that was it. I told my caddie I probably had the most feet of putts all day that I putted just because I was so far from the hole on the greens.
You got to hang in there even though it's not going great. I could have get that be 2-, 3-over with some three-putts yesterday, so get off to a good start certainly helped.
Q. What's the one thing you're focusing on heading into the last 36 holes?
KEVIN KISNER: Yeah, I'm just sticking to what I been doing, working on the my swing on the range and trying to take it from the range to the golf course. That's the biggest difference I noticed, is I stripe it on the range, get on the first tee, hit a terrible shot and then wonder what's going on, and your mind wanders for four and a half hours.
So sticking to what I know what works and understanding what happens when it doesn't happen.
