Quick Quotes

Q. Just a few comments on who you've got standing next to you and how that came about.

J.J. HENRY: Well, obviously this is a real special week for me. I grew up about an hour and 15 minutes south in Fairfield. I played first here as an amateur in 1998 and ironically my dad caddied for me.

Here I am 24 years later still kind of hanging on playing, obviously winning the tournament here in 2006 and being from the state kind of carrying the flag, if you will, for the last two decades. So to have my son now caddying for me is something -- talk about life coming full circle, it's special.

He did a great job. We got off to kind of a rough start. We were 3-over through about 10 holes and we made three birdies coming in to feel a little bit better.

He's become a heck of a player himself, so it's been nice to -- I actually caddied for him last week, believe it or not. I live in Fort Worth now, at the state amateur. He goes, Dad, you'd better be nice to me because I get to caddie for you next week. We had a great time. This is what life is all about. You get to my age at 47, to still have an opportunity to come home and play in front of a lot of hometown fans here is great.

I don't get a chance to play every week, so to hang in there and shoot a fairly decent 70, hopefully go out tomorrow and shoot under par and get a chance to play on the weekend.

Q. Let me ask you what your thoughts were, how much fun did you have, and give him a grade what he did right and wrong.

CONNOR HENRY: We did a lot of good today. It was a good day. Obviously kind of a rocky start and fought it back. It was good stuff, good momentum for tomorrow.

Q. Our saying is, Dad, be a man, get up there and hit a shot, stop staring it around. He told me that a couple times. We finally got a birdie putt to go in on 11 and we birdied 11, 12, and then 16. Had a couple other opportunities coming in.

But all in all, it was a great day. Again, to kind of see life come full circle like this, not too many guys say they can play the PGA TOUR, won a tournament in their home state and then 24 years later have their son caddying for them. It's been a special day, and hopefully we can play well tomorrow, and again, like I said, play all four days because it's a special place to me and my family, and where I grew up coming up as a youngster, kind of watching the guys hit balls, and then to have 50,000 people on the 18th hole in 2006 screaming your name when I won.

Now like I said, he's become -- he's actually going to OU. He was recruited; he's verbally committed. He's a heck of a player himself. He'll be a senior in high school next year. But it's a special week. It really is. It's what life is all about.
