Quick Quotes

Q. Mac, how would you assess the round today?

MAC MEISSNER: I think I made golf pretty easy. Tried to hit a lot of greens. Missed a couple greens, but never had to chip today, which was really nice. If I missed the green I was putting.

So made it pretty easy. Took advantage of the easier holes and some of the wedge shots I had.

And then the back nine is a little bit tougher so just kind of coasted through on the back.

So, hopefully would love to do that the next couple days.

Q. I know this is only the second event since the Wyndham. What have you done since then?

MAC MEISSNER: Yeah, just relaxed. Went and saw family and just tried to take my mind off golf a little bit, which after a long season is really nice.

So had some vacation time. Went up -- with my wife to the Hamptons and played some of those special golf courses up there, so that was fun. I say I'm taking my mind off golf and still playing golf.

I love it. Happy to be out here competing and having a chance.

Q. You say taking your mind off, but those are kind of more fun golf.

MAC MEISSNER: For sure.

Q. Can you separate fun golf and competitive golf?

MAC MEISSNER: I would say I can way better now than I used to. That was something I always struggled with, was taking myself a little bit too seriously. Even out here in these tournament rounds I'm trying to do a better job of just of trying to have a little bit more fun and enjoying it.

I think I've been doing a lot better at it actually. It's been making way more enjoyable. It can be a grind out here traveling every week, but I think the more you can make it fun and enjoy it. I had a great group today with Fish and Chan, so that was a lot of the fun as well.

Q. How much did that finish at the Wyndham change how you approach this fall?

MAC MEISSNER: Entirely. I mean, I was planning on playing everything this fall and having to play really well to secure my card for next year, and now I'm, I wouldn't say freewheeling because I still need to play a couple decent events to probably retain full status, but definitely a little less stressed now and just trying to go win.

I think if Wyndham proved anything to me it's my good is good enough. Obviously Cam kind of boat raced me that week, but to finish second, which 16-under would've been good any other year.

So to see that my good is good enough I think is nice when you've gone on a stretch of missing cuts or on a cold streak, so that was nice.

And just like I said, trying to take myself a little less seriously in a sense. Taking care of what I can control and in between shots chatting, having a little bit more fun.

Q. Was it hard to see before the Wyndham that your good was good enough?

MAC MEISSNER: It can at times. You can come out here and feel like you play pretty decent golf and miss cuts by one or two. That would be really good everywhere else in the world, but on this TOUR with how good the competition is, especially during the summer when we are getting cuts that are 5-or 6-under every week it's really challenging.

So like I said, I've always known deep down. That reassurance from a good tournament definitely helps.
