Q. Kevin, what was working best out there for you today?
KEVIN YU: Everything was smooth today. I hit a lot of fairways, hit a lot of greens, and putting was okay today. I had a lot of good putts that just didn't drop.
Just give myself a lot of chances; I think that's a key point for this course.
Q. What did it feel like coming back this year as the defending champion. Got to have a good, positive feel when you go out and play your first round.
KEVIN YU: Yeah, obviously I really like this place. Always do such a good job inside course, outside the course. So I really like the greens. I just feel like if I hit as many fairways as possible, as many greens as possible, I'm going to have a lot of chances. I love these greens and I know I have a lot of chances.
So just keep having like a great mindset like I just talk about earlier just helped me out there today. Just not thinking about anything outside of golf, which is nice. So just keep doing that tomorrow, yeah.
Q. What has the last month or so been like for you with the TOUR going on a -- not a hiatus, but less tournaments. What have you been up to?
KEVIN YU: Not a lot of golf honestly. I did a lot of things in Taiwan. Like went fishing quite a bit. Spent time with family and girlfriend.
Just wanted to take a little break from golf. My body wasn't feeling the best like towards the understand of the season, towards the playoffs.
So I just wanted to take a little break and feel great my mind feel a lot clearer right now. I like where I am right now, yeah.
Q. What does getting away from golf do for you?
KEVIN YU: Yeah, I think towards the playoffs I think I play like six in a row. Just with the points you want to play good, and the things that you've been working on, you want to see the results.
Thinking a lot of like the things that you can't control. I realize that and I know when play good I won't think about those things.
So really out there today just really trying to, like I say earlier, hit as many fairways as possible, hit as many greens as possible, and just give myself a lot of chances.
I think that's really a big key for me, especially on this course, and I did pretty good today.
Q. Having an extended break like that reaps its benefits, but what are the challenges when you take time off like that when you return to golf?
KEVIN YU: Obviously the golf swing feel a little rusty when I come back. I feel I still had to set expectations, but with like that much time off, it won't come out the same, like usual, so just really got to be patient and I know I can still find my game which I did today.
Yeah, coming out with the long break usually just feel like a little rusty and just doubt yourself a little bit too.
I just know now that I can overcome those things and, yeah, did really good today.
Q. As the defending champion, when you first get back on property and see the pictures of yourself and everything going on, people saying things, what's that experience like?
KEVIN YU: Feels nice. I mean, I want to do that more often. Feels great. People treating me really nice and see the guys I see last year, it was nice.
And then, yeah, just another place that I like and really enjoy playing here.
