Q. Birdies are better through 36 holes than in your PGA TOUR career. What's been clicking well this week so far?
ERIC COLE: The putter has been good. I've been putting well. These greens are great. I love putting them. Old school Bermuda, pretty easy to read. Yeah, that's been the biggest thing.
Also, pretty good wedge play and iron play, so that's been nice. If I just drove it in the fairway a little more often, I could have a lot of birdies.
Q. Did you drive it a little bit better today? The stats kind of say you did.
ERIC COLE: The good ones are good. I hit plenty of good drives, but just a few too many wild ones. Today I think I probably missed it in some better spots, so it wasn't as penalizing as some of the drives yesterday.
Yeah, it's pretty similar, but yeah, probably just a little bit better today.
Q. Still obviously chasing your first PGA TOUR win. What have you kind of learned when you've gotten into these situations that you maybe can can rely on this weekend to stay in contention?
ERIC COLE: I think kind of what I was just mentioning. You don't have to play perfect. You don't have to hit every fairway. Every shot doesn't have to be some great shot, but just stay patient and try to improve on what's not working. So that's going to be kind of my goal this evening and when I'm playing tomorrow.
Q. Is that kind of like a misnomer a little bit, that people, media, fans, don't get that -- you guys aren't playing perfect golf when you're out there in con Teng and winning tournaments?
ERIC COLE: Yeah, I think it's definitely something that that's the case because you see a lot of highlights on the coverage and stuff and there's great shots. There's also a few squirrely ones in there that they don't show. I think that's probably a good generalization is PGA TOUR players don't hit all their shots perfect.
Q. A lot of the guys have mentioned how good the greens are, but from your perspective, what exactly makes a green or these greens good?
ERIC COLE: I think they're fast. They're a great speed to putt. Downhill they can get away from you, but you know that. Also, they're extremely consistent, so every green is kind of the same speed, which there's some tournaments where some are faster or slower and you can kind of -- one's a little firmer or softer.
So these are very consistent top to bottom where you're not really guessing the speed as much. That makes them easier to read too.
Q. Old school Bermuda, what do you mean by that? I know like -- compared to other types of greens.
ERIC COLE: It's just it's probably a pretty old strand of Bermuda, so they can get grainy if they're longer. These are cut so low there's very little grain. Growing up in Florida, it's a common grass that you putt on. So very familiar with it.
