Q. The rain is falling. It was fortunate for you to hit that shot it seemed like after the horn was blown. Why is that?
PETER MALNATI: I told Kurt I was not going to hit any more shots. Then we get up here -- and I was looking at tomorrow's forecast, I think the wind forecast tomorrow. It was going to be -- in the morning it's going to be blowing left-to-right. If it's blowing hard it makes that shot really difficult, because I'm going to have to start it -- anyway, I ended up hitting not a very good shot anyway. But I'm in the closely mown area, I'll be able to get putter on the ball, so I'm in good shape.
Today I knew the wind was kind of straight down. Tomorrow it could be more like pushing it toward the ocean. So I thought I would try it.
Q. How do you feel like you played this opening nine here at Pebble?
PETER MALNATI: How did it look like? Because it felt terrible. I mean, I don't think I hit any shots in the fairway except for the worst tee shot I hit all day, which I chunked a hybrid off 8. Of course, if you miss that fairway there's something really wrong.
So I got to get the ball in the fairway. But I'm really good at golf. Like I'm really -- I've been out of position all day and I'm still 2-under par. Like what could I do if I was in position? Let's go.
Q. Fair point. You don't have 18 holes tomorrow, you got eight and a half. Actually less than that for you since you hit your second shot. There's a gap between you and Justin right now. Do you change your strategy at all with that limited amount of holes?
PETER MALNATI: I don't know. Like, I mean, I'm not in this position too much. I'm going to go do my best tomorrow on every single shot. If we come to 18 and it's just the two of us, then I'm going to think about strategy. Being, like, do I need to be more aggressive to catch him or whatever. Because I do play to win. It's why we do this.
But until it gets close to the end -- it looks like it's a pretty bunched leaderboard, too. Like Justin's got a little gap and then there's a lot of scores all around.
So I just got to go out there and take care of my business, do my best on every shot. My goal is to win every week when I play. It would be especially sweet to win at a place like this. So that will be on my mind overnight. It will certainly be what I'm shooting for tomorrow.
