Q. How would you characterize your match today?
WEBB SIMPSON: It was stressful, very stressful. The wind was gusty. Golf course is in amazing shape, greens are firming out, greens are fast, so it's tough to putt on fast greens when it's windy. But Harman's, he's a great friend, great competitor, I knew it was going to be a tough match. It's nice to get it done, considering I felt like I was sloppy at times. But nice start.
Q. What was maybe the sloppiest part of your game?
WEBB SIMPSON: I just had a left miss out there. We just hit a few on the range to kind of iron it out and it got better, but this golf course is tricky around the greens, you got to miss it in the right spots and a couple times today, three or four times today I hit it in spots that were really difficult up-and-downs.
And in match play you really want to have the mindset of never giving a guy a hole. I felt like today I gave too many holes.
Q. He's a tough competitor, he's always kind of a bulldog, is that kind of the toughest part of the match maybe a little bit today?
WEBB SIMPSON: Yeah, he's a fiery competitor, I knew it was going to be tough. 2-up going into 17 I hit a bad shot, should have just hit it 40 feet, but hit two good shots on 18 to get it done.
Q. To get that win the first day, how important is that to you?
WEBB SIMPSON: It's important. I haven't had great success here, so to get off to a good start, I love. Got two more matches to get through the pod, but, yeah, for a day where I felt like I hit a few loose shots and still get a W is a good feeling.
