Scottie Scheffler

Press Conference

Q. Pretty amazing success on this course. What would you say is your personal par on this golf course?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It's not a stroke play event, so I have no idea.

Q. If you had to, though, like if you had to say for 18 holes, if you play your game, 5-under, 6-under?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Who knows? Maybe you could average out my rounds and that will be my par, whatever that is.

Q. Felt better today and yesterday with the putting?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, today I had a lot of good putts. It's tough when you get the wind around here because it's so gusty, especially on the greens. There's some times when it's blowing really hard or some times it's blowing really soft.

If it's constant, it would be easier. That's probably the biggest challenge, is the gusts of wind.

I felt like today I hit a lot of good putts. I had a couple I wasn't pleased with, but overall I felt good about my performance.

Q. How would you compare this year to the last couple of years where you've had so much success? Just more of a continuation of the same old, same old?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I'm just hoping to continue to play good. I'm not over thinking things. I haven't thought about last year once this week.

Just glad to get through my group and focus on tomorrow.

Q. Do you look at who you're playing, or do you not really care?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I heard I'm playing J.T. Poston. In this tournament everyone you're playing with is very talented. I'm going to have to go out and do my best if I'm going to win. If I don't, I'm probably going to lose.

All I can do is go into tomorrow and do my best. Obviously J.T. is a very talented player. Looking forward to the challenge.

Q. What is your best asset as a match play player, do you think?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I would say I'm just very competitive. The simplicity of it is what I like. Even if the guy is playing great golf, I know what I need to do.

Sometimes you're under the buzz saw, which happens. I ran into a few buzz saws at the Presidents Cup last year, and that happens.

Overall, I feel like if I'm playing my best, then I should win the match. That's what I'm focused on doing is trying to go out and play my best and go from there.

Q. What do you work on after the first round where you had some uncharacteristic putts?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: The first round was weird because I hit -- I'm not even sure I remember. I feel like I pulled one maybe on 14, and then I think I pushed one on 12.

Then 16, I hit a good putt.

17, I hit a good putt.

Then 18, I hit a good putt.

I just wanted to reinforce the things that I was working on and make sure my setup is good, alignment is good, I'm in a good mental space, and just go from there.

Q. Not trying to jinx it, but if Texas makes it out of this weekend, will you go to Houston for the Final Four? Is that too close to Augusta?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It's pretty close to Augusta. That would be fun. It's a tough decision, but it is a little close to the Masters. It's been busy so far this spring. I'm glad that it's been busy. Hopefully I'll continue to play well this weekend and it will be a long weekend, and I'll be tired on Sunday.

I don't want to get too far ahead of myself. I'll focus on my match in the morning.

Q. How's your bracket?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It all depends on Texas (laughter).
