Quick Quotes

Q. Scott, how would you characterize the day?

SCOTT STALLINGS: Definitely the brother-in-law. We had a tale of two nines. Kind of carried it through our back nine, which is the back, and Bryce played great. I was able to kind of throw one in there on 7 and 8, but it was nice we didn't birdie the same hole ever, and that's what you have to do. We did a great job of that today.

Q. I know you guys have played here before with different partners. How did this pairing come about?

SCOTT STALLINGS: Well, we're not partners very often on Tuesdays. We're often opponents, but we've played lots of practice rounds together, and since COVID we've shared a bunch of rental houses, and almost every practice round you can think of we've probably played together since the comeback in May. We talked about it, and took him a while to commit, but we reeled him in.

BRICE GARNETT: Our games are somewhat similar. We hit a lot of fairways, hit a lot of greens and both have pretty I good short games, so we felt like teaming up would be a pretty I good option.

Q. So you're never on each other's teams on Tuesday games?

SCOTT STALLINGS: Not very often. I tell his caddie a lot, there's about five hours a week I don't feel like he's cheering for me, when we're playing against each other. But it's been a lot of -- there's a lot of trash talking on Tuesdays.

Q. How much experience do you have playing foursomes format apart from this event the last couple years?

BRICE GARNETT: This is it for me. This is pretty much it. We both hit a lot of fairways, like I said, and I feel like we've got a lot of opportunities out there. I told my caddie after about the sixth hole, I was about 5-over par and I was like, this sure doesn't seem an individual stroke-play event this week. But got it going a little bit on the back nine, and we had a good time out there.

Q. Just on a different tack, the 13th hole has a tree in the middle of the fairway. What's your strategy when you get to that hole? Do you have something worked out on that ahead of time or is it just dependent on circumstances?

SCOTT STALLINGS: No, you're trying to hit the fairway first and worry about it second. It's something you kind of think about when you're out there, but off the tee you're just trying to hit it out there to the right. Unless it's just dead into like most of the guys can hit it where it's not really -- it's there but not really in play.

Q. Just to be clear, you've never played the format that you'll play tomorrow, even in college or as an amateur?

BRICE GARNETT: Alternate-shot? No, just here.

SCOTT STALLINGS: Now, like some country club, like fun games and this and that, but I've never played like any kind of Cup matches or anything like that. Just some random stuff at my home club.

Q. Do you like it?

BRICE GARNETT: Yeah, I think it's great. For our game, I think we're a great pairing. I think --

SCOTT STALLINGS: And we know each other's game, like we kind of know -- we definitely know we're on the same realm as like Kisner and Browny, but like we stand there and like I know what club he hits and he knows what club I hit. It's nice to have an extra set of eyes out there when you're trying to make a decision.

Q. How come you guys are never on the same team? Why are you always opponents?

BRICE GARNETT: We usually play a three-ball in the practice rounds.

SCOTT STALLINGS: Yeah, so just a big hate match.

BRICE GARNETT: Usually me and Scott and Browny used to play three --

SCOTT STALLINGS: So now no one is on anyone's team.

Q. What's your strategy tomorrow for the foursomes given that you haven't really played it together? Odds, evens, who's taking what?

SCOTT STALLINGS: I'm going odds. We kind of made that decision throughout and try to get Brice on the greens as much as we possibly can. That was kind of the decision -- the guy that is the even tends to putt more, and Bryce rolls it incredible, and I think the more opportunities we can get him on there, the better.

BRICE GARNETT: And I don't want to hit those par-3 tee shots.

Q. Do you remember when you played with Chesson here, I think you top-5'd. Was that the same order that you used when you played with him?

BRICE GARNETT: It was, yeah. He played the evens, I played the odds, and we had a chance there with the back nine on Sunday. I think you've just got to be consistent and have great short games, and I think we're both in the top 10 scrambling this year, so our short game coach -- we've got the same short game coach --

SCOTT STALLINGS: He was grinding out there.

Q. Who is that?

SCOTT STALLINGS: Tim Yelverton.
