Seamus Power

Quick Quotes

Q. Seamus, obviously a little bit tougher today with the conditions. Just talk about what's been going on lately in your game and how it all translated out there today.

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah, it was definitely tougher. We played yesterday morning, and it was a lot more moist around the course. Greens were a little slower, a little softer. It didn't seem that tricky. Right from the get-go where I started on the 1st hole today, we kind of knew we were in for a different challenge.

I kind of figured out something with my irons on the range yesterday afternoon, so that was much better. I had a nice feel on the greens. All in all, a good day.

Q. Do you think this is somewhat from what you were doing at Charles Schwab and starting to build to some more form like this?

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah, my game has felt good enough for a while. I had surgery in November, and I was just slow to come back from that. By the time I got to full practice, I'm already playing into tournaments. That's been the biggest thing, being able to practice fully again, body feels comfortable again.

Got a little confidence there in a little stretch. Played well in Vegas in the Korn Ferry event and played well in Dallas. Yeah, so just trying to build on that.

Q. Obviously, you're going into the weekend here with a pretty good chance in the mix. Do you feel like you're getting more comfortable being at the pointed ends of some of these tournaments?

SEAMUS POWER: Absolutely. You know, even when things are good in practice, it's still just a little bit extra confidence to see it in the tournament, and even obviously it was the Korn Ferry event in Las Vegas that gave me a lot of confidence. I hit a lot of good shots down the stretch. I hit some confidence shots with a lot of wind and all that stuff. Really from there, I've been able to build on it, just knowing the stuff I have done to improve my game, it is working, and it's just kind of a matter of time.

Q. Excluding the conditions of the golf course, what about the layout here seems to suit your eye?

SEAMUS POWER: I think it's beautiful. It's tricky, and I'm guessing, if we don't get much rain, the weekend is going to be tougher. You've got to think your way around it. In certain spots, and it happened to me on 17, I got a little trouble off the tee, maybe tried to be a bit too aggressive, and all of a sudden I have a six footer to save a bogey. I like it in that sense.

You can't just go at every hole. You get too aggressive, and you run into bunkers. You got to hit it in some good spots, and I was able to do that today, so hopefully I can keep it up over the weekend.

Q. Take us through some of your birdies out there today or maybe just a few that stood out to you.

SEAMUS POWER: The one on 18 was very nice, coming off that bogey on 17, a very nice 2-iron. I left myself a good number. I was able to get a lob wedge there into probably ten feet and knocked it in. A couple of good chances in back. I wasn't leaving myself the easiest putts. Hit a great tee shot on a drivable one on 15, actually probably had 12 feet or so for eagle, just missed it low, but that was another nice one because it's a hole that can go round.

Made a couple nice putts on the front. All in all, steady, good iron shots, made some putts, which is kind what you have to do to have a good round.

Q. Do you feel like with how hard 8 is playing, getting a birdie there is like picking up a shot on the field essentially?

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah, I wasn't aiming at the pin, but I kind of hit one of those accidental pushes, I was aiming 20 feet left and pushed it right at it. Probably only had 3, 3-1/2 feet for birdie up the hill. Could have worked out nicely. Yeah, it's a tough hole. That's a tough stretch there. 6 -- even 5 today. 5 through 9, even through 10, I thought it was meat of the course today, and I was able to pick up a couple shots on 8 and 9 which were huge down the stretch.

There's no guarantee you're going to hit them over the weekend. Some holes are long, you've got to hit good tee shots, and even that doesn't give you much. You've got to be accurate, and you've got to be patient coming into the greens.
