Q. Just talk about the learning experience that you and the offense can get from facing a team of Miami's caliber.
DAVIS WARREN: Yeah, they're a good group, got a lot of good players, good scheme, obviously. Gave us some fits tonight. I think it's just a really good opportunity, like you said, for us to grow, get better, improve. Really look at this film and ask what are all the things we can do? We have a great opportunity with a bye week, get better week, whatever you want to call it, to go do that. I think it's going to help us out a lot. We have a lot of young guys stepping in tonight and play hard and fight and I think it's just a great opportunity to improve.
Q. Hi, Davis. Kind of a two-part question, but first, you and Darian on the other side both are California guys. For you to come to Stanford. It's not exactly Manhattan Beach, of course, but to be in California again, how does that feel for you and just how do you feel that's affected your season just to be somewhat adjacent to home?
DAVIS WARREN: Yeah, it's nice to be back. Darian is a great player, obviously. He played great tonight. I got to meet him over in Charlotte at media day. Great kid and obviously played really well, outplayed me for sure so I got to be better.
But, yeah, definitely nice to be in California. This is home. It's really the people, though. The people here have made this place feel like home for me and Coach Pritchard, Coach Luck, all the staff, all the players, they made it feel like home and it's been nice, but I know we're going to start getting on the road here for some road games and I'll be ready for those too.
Q. There was one drive where you started Zion a couple of times. Couldn't quite find the end zone. Just talk about what you saw in these plays and sequences and what he can bring for you guys.
DAVIS WARREN: Yeah, Zion has been awesome. Ever since he's gotten here, he's just been about his business, came in wanting to get better, always asking questions, looking for little ways to improve. Wants to watch film with me, sit in there, learn the installs.
I think that's the biggest thing for a freshman is being able to come in and learn the system as fast as you can so then you can play fast. If you're out there second-guessing what you have to do, then you're not going to be able to show your talents and that kid's got a ton of talent. He is explosive. He's great at the catch point. He runs good routes and we just got to keep working to get on the same page.
Found him a couple times tonight, but definitely be better there and hit him in stride on that one and get in the end zone late there. He's been great and shout out to Coach Bratton for bringing him along.
Q. Hey, Davis. More so in the first half, you guys did some really nice things offensively and then there were the drops and the penalties. I know you'll dive further into this with the film but how do you reconcile the totality of what the offense did, particularly in that first half?
DAVIS WARREN: Yeah, I think, you know, I don't have all the stats but definitely penalties were a huge, huge thing. We beat ourselves in a lot of ways tonight. You cannot do that against a good football team. It's just a situation where it's hard to live in second and 15, second and 20. That's difficult.
And then drops, those things happen. Some of those I can probably put the ball in a better spot for those guys. I'm sure knowing those receivers, they're going to take responsibility for it too and know they got to be better. I think looking at it as a whole, obviously, some things we did well, some things that are bright spots for sure but a lot things, a lot of things to improve on and it starts with me, definitely some things I could have done better.
I know we'll watch the tape and it's just a really good opportunity for us to learn and to understand the things that we can do better and to get, you know, two weeks to work on it is huge.
So I think it's going to be great for this offense. We're going to come out the other side and be better for it and we'll look back on this as a really good learning opportunity and one that is going to propel us into this next part of the year.
THE MODERATOR: Any other questions for Davis?
Q. From their D-line you were facing a lot of rushes tonight, a lot of pressures. You were trying to move around it and you were still getting throws off. What were you seeing in all those situations trying to navigate around the pocket?
DAVIS WARREN: Yeah, obviously they got a really good D-line. Had some guys, new guys in there compared to a lot of, some of the experience they had last year. Knew they were going to be a good group of rushers and a good challenge for our O-line. I thought our O-line did a pretty good job staying in there for sure.
The penalties, that is what it is but I know the guys up front, they fought their butts off. Definitely some situations where I could have stood in there a little bit more and it's that extra, that now-or-never throw. Stand in there that extra half second to hope that the window's going to be there and did that a couple of times. Some other times I felt like I had to get out of there. That's part of the game.
Definitely got to be a little bit better on my end, just a couple of those standing in there and hoping that we can find a window and I know there were some holes for us to hit some things.
I can be better, but the O-line, they fought their butts off against a really good defensive line that they had for sure.
