Eugene Omoruyi

Press Conference

Q. As a two-way guy, the Thunder has a pretty good track record of taking two-way guys like Lu and others in the past and turning them into full roster. What's that history mean to you to be on this team and with that background.

EUGENE OMORUYI: It means a lot, definitely. Especially talking to Lu and talking to other guys that have been through that, it means a lot. It just allows for me to know that the work I put in will definitely get rewarded with the success I have for sure.

Q. Have you gotten any advice from Lu or Aaron or any of the guys who have been in that situation?

EUGENE OMORUYI: Yeah, for sure. I spoke to them. They just keep telling me to do me, do what I do, do what got me here and expand on that and just continue growing as a player. That's what I'm doing, coming into the gym every day working and continuing to put myself in that position.

Q. Obviously the number 97 is a bit unique. Is there any story behind that?

EUGENE OMORUYI: Yeah, '97 is my birth year, and like I told a few guys, they were all asking me, and I told them like 97 is like me and my friends are called the '97 boys. We were born in '97, the three of us. I know they wanted to make it to the NBA. They had dreams and aspirations just like I did. So playing under the 97 definitely means a lot to them and me also.

Q. You're getting ready to start training camp tomorrow; what are you most looking forward to, and three or four weeks from now, what do you hope you've taken away from the training camp experience?

EUGENE OMORUYI: Yeah, just hopping on the court. We've been together all summer already, so just hopping on the court and preparing for the season really, just come out hungry, come out prepared and come out ready to go.

Then three weeks from now, just continue building on that. It's a long season, so just continue taking that as a process.

Q. I don't know how much time you've spent in OKC, but what are your thoughts on the city and the people here?

EUGENE OMORUYI: The people are great. Everyone is welcoming. It's different than Toronto where I'm from, but it's definitely good in the perspective of focusing on basketball. It reminds me of my Oregon days when I was at Oregon. It allows me to just put my time into the gym and no distractions and just stay locked in really.

Q. Last year you spent some time with the Mavs. That was a team with quite a few vets. Now you come into this team, which is the second youngest team ever. Is there a certain level of comfortability playing with younger guys than there is playing with older guys?

EUGENE OMORUYI: Yeah, I'd definitely say it's definitely -- us being around the same page definitely helps, and it builds longtime friendships and just allows for us to go out there together and learn together really.
