Otega Oweh

Press Conference

Q. Summer League got cut short for you, but how do you feel now getting ready for training camp?

OTEGA OWEH: I feel great. I've been back now for a little while. I feel like I'm back to top-notch shape. So I feel good, ready to go for tomorrow.

Q. Obviously you're able to get some first impressions of your fellow rookies in Vegas and Salt Lake City, but now that a couple months have passed, what has stood out to you about this class?

OTEGA OWEH: Yeah, I like this class that we got, that group that is coming in this year. I feel like everyone is super humble, ready to put their hard hat on. When you have guys like that that they are ready to go to work and ready to go to war, it makes you ready to go to war and go to work. I'm super excited to get to play with them guys.

Q. How excited are you as a defender to get the challenge of guarding a gay like Shai and Dub in practices and stuff like that?

OTEGA OWEH: Yeah, I've got some good -- I've already got to get my feet wet already. I'm super excited. Just being able to play at the highest level now and be able to guard these guys and get them better but also get myself better, as well.

Like the runs we've had the past couple weeks have been really good, and I'm excited for training camp now.

Q. We know you spent time at OU and Kentucky. They are playing each other in a couple weeks. Are we going to see you at the game with a split down the middle jersey?

OTEGA OWEH: Crazy, I was talking that about that today. Probably don't have enough time to get a split jersey, but I'll be supporting for sure. I won't say who. I just want to see a good game, really.

Q. Big point of emphasis for you is the three-point shot. Where do you feel like you are at right now with that and how much of the off-season work was put toward that?

OTEGA OWEH: I feel really good right now. For me, I feel like I just got to make open threes, really, and being on a team like this with a lot of great and unselfish guys, I feel like I'm going to be in a lot of positions where I'm going to have to. So everything is reps, and you know, for me, it's nothing but reps. I'm excited and looking forward to getting on the court.

Q. Who in your life have you emotionally leaned off as you transition to becoming a pro athlete and all that goes into that?

OTEGA OWEH: Yeah, my family. We have one -- actually, we have two pro athletes right now in football, but having them in my household and being someone I could call, they have helped me a lot transition and give me some gems; and being able to talk to them has been a blessing. They have helped me a lot.

Q. What's it been like to have these wells of knowledge like Cason, AC, Dubs, all defensive players?

OTEGA OWEH: Yeah, it's been amazing. I haven't got to pick their brains yet but I'm excited. I watch a lot of basketball so I've already got to see little nuance that is they do and I've already tried to implement that in my defensive ability. I'm super excited to just to watch those guys this year and be able to learn and compete with them.

Q. You mentioned having some pro football players in the family but what are some is of the translatable mental things that go across all sports in terms of what it takes to be a pro?

OTEGA OWEH: Yeah, you said it, it's a lot of mental things. Skill plays a big part for sure. But the main part is mental. They are just telling me to focus on myself. Focus on things I can control, which is how I show up to work every single day, putting my hard hat on and just having a good attitude because at the end of the day we are pros, and we are doing the thing that we love to do and that we have dreamed to do.

Just got to put everything in perspective and just be thankful.
