Q. Probably felt pretty good to see that ball go in at 3, huh?
RYAN FOX: It certainly did. I did not hit a couple of good shots early. Terrible tee shot off 1, and a terrible one off 2 as well. Then I didn't hit a great tee shot off 3, but I hung onto the right edge of the fairway and ended up with a pretty good number with a full sand wedge.
I was just trying to give myself a birdie putt after those first couple of holes. To see it go in just kind of settled everything down. Me and Tom were joking about being even through 3. Probably would have taken that in the conditions we started in.
The rest of the day was actually pretty solid after that. It's funny, golf just takes one shot sometimes to kind of find it, and that the one shot for me today.
Q. Your reaction was kind of almost laughing. What did you think?
RYAN FOX: Yeah, it was because I had not looked like hitting a good shot for the first two holes. It was kind of funny -- the reason I was laughing was because I'd finally hit a good shot, and the good shot was perfect.
Yeah, golf's a strange game like that sometimes.
Q. We're not going to know officially, but more or less, you're on the Presidents Cup team. What does that -- you've been close a few times. What is this going to mean to you?
RYAN FOX: That was probably the biggest goal of the year to make that team, and I think the extra bit would be to qualify automatically, which I think I should be pretty safe for after this week.
Look, I felt like I gave myself a pretty good chance the last couple. It might have been a little hard done by four years ago, but yeah, I'm very excited to be a part of it this year. We've got a great group of guys involved, captains and players.
I don't know -- obviously it's not official yet, but all the extended group outings we've had and dinners and stuff like that, we all get along really, really well. I'm excited to be part of the team, and hopefully we can do something special this year.
Q. How many captains called you to say you're not making the team, and what was that like for you?
RYAN FOX: Yeah, I had probably the toughest one was from Trevor in 2022. I got the call on like the Wednesday night. I was in Crans-Montana playing there. And I felt like I was still probably on the outside looking in, not being a PGA TOUR member, not playing much over here, but I still felt like I had a shot. I was pretty comfortable being inside the top 12, I think, on the list. That probably affected how I played that week big time.
I knew in '24 I'd given myself a good start to the campaign, but my PGA TOUR season in '24 was pretty slow. I knew I wasn't getting the pick from Mike pretty early on. I hadn't played well enough and definitely didn't deserve it. But I'm glad I'm on the other side of it this year.
Q. Did you do anything fun in the last week with the trophy?
RYAN FOX: In the last week? I've had a couple of functions I've been able to take it to and stuff, which is good. I've got it here this week again. It's traveled with me pretty much everywhere I've been the last five or six weeks. That's pretty cool to be able to do.
I've got a really good friend here who we're going to dinner with tomorrow. So I'm going to take the Claret Jug to dinner and put a little bit of wine in it for them to have a drink out of. It's pretty special to be able to do those things.
