Q. You must be very, very happy. Tell us what it's like to be in contention. You've had a great year, looking really good. What would this mean to you to go on and get this job done?
CAMERON YOUNG: I haven't gotten there yet honestly. I was in last place about 3 1/2 hours ago. There's not much wind today, and the field seems to be playing pretty well for even-par being last place after yesterday.
I think I can pat myself on the back for shooting 8-under, but that doesn't change how much work there is left to even give yourself a chance. I don't know what the scores are going to be like today, but it feels like it's not playing too difficult for how this place can be, and I wouldn't expect really to be that close after today frankly.
Q. You should pat yourself on the back. What is it about players playing on their own and they go on to shoot 62 here at this tournament?
CAMERON YOUNG: I don't know, it seems to be a strong pattern. It's a bit strange. I've never done it before. Yeah, once you kind of get over the fact that they just announced one person on the 1st hole, it's kind of more like a practice round. We play a lot of practice rounds just on my own. Yeah, I felt like, especially with it going well, it was really easy to keep going.
You don't have to wait. You don't have to wait for anybody else. Nothing weird happens. Just got in a really nice rhythm and kept going.
Q. Did you have a putter switch?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, I don't really know why. It's one we've been working on for a while. It's a little bit simpler look than mine. It's the same footprint, literally the same shape. I don't know. I just pulled it out of the bag on Monday, hit a few with it, and never put the other one back.
Q. Did you find yourself having to be a little bit more patient out there just the fact you haven't played by yourself in a tournament before, especially this caliber of tournament.
CAMERON YOUNG: No, no, it makes it easier because you're not waiting on anybody. You kind of just like -- you just keep going. You don't do anything that isn't at your own pace. You're never waiting. You're never rushing. In that sense, it's pretty nice.
Q. 13 fairways, 14 greens in regulation. It was just all the way solid. I mean, even-par to 8-under is a big leap.
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah.
Q. What are you doing differently, just making putts? At the end of the day, is that everything?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, to make an eight-shot difference, it's not going to be one thing. Just hit it a little better and made a few putts. It happens, I feel like, all the time. You get guys -- I feel like I played okay yesterday. I didn't play awful.
I got off to an awful start and then played fine after that. Just one of those times that I feel like I just bunched -- happened to bunch them together this morning on the front, kind of, first 10, 11 holes, but that just happens.
Q. 7-under through 11 holes. I know you're not thinking ahead. You're a pro. You don't think about 59.
CAMERON YOUNG: We all think about everything. That's false.
Q. You said you all think about everything?
CAMERON YOUNG: I think so. We all think about that. You have thoughts that enter your mind, and you have to think about them.
Q. You don't (indiscernible) in the press, that's all?
CAMERON YOUNG: I will. I wasn't necessarily thinking about 59. I just looked up and I was in second, and I was like, okay, let's go. I didn't care what it added up to today. I felt like I was in a place where I could keep making birdies and unfortunately didn't.
It wasn't -- no, at 59 -- I don't want to say I've done it before, I don't care, but in the context of this golf tournament, I don't care if I shoot 59 or not. It's more about just putting yourself in it, and that's kind of what I was doing.
Q. What was your level of frustration after yesterday's round?
CAMERON YOUNG: My level of frustration has been pretty high for four or five weeks. Yesterday I -- because I have played okay and putted poorly and finished in positions that I feel like are unacceptable, to be brutally honest.
Yeah, I'd say it almost was less yesterday actually than maybe some other days because I did get off to an awful start. I could have just shot 77 and ended my tournament, but I didn't. I kind of fought back and shot even-par.
While that was in last place, I don't feel it was that bad. Yeah, it's been high, and I think yesterday was maybe not as high as you would have expected.
Q. (No microphone)? Did you think that one would have a chance?
CAMERON YOUNG: No, I thought it was going to go to the fringe. It was terrible pace, but really good line.
Q. Did you feel like the weirdness of playing by yourself might have helped with getting some of that -- out of that frustration and just changing up the situation a little bit?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, from a mental perspective, good golf fixes just about everything. Yeah, like I said earlier, playing by yourself, it's strange for a second. Kind of when you see the pairing, it's strange; and then once you get into it, like I said, you don't have to wait. You don't have to rush. You can kind of just do everything you'd like to do the whole day. So it's easy in that sense.
Q. Was there a moment in the first 11 holes in that stretch where you were like, I've got it today? Like, I'm feeling good today?
CAMERON YOUNG: I don't know. I feel like I just kind of kept hitting good shots. I wasn't like -- no, I wouldn't say that I just -- I didn't stand on the tee box and say, hey, this is going in the middle of the fairway. I'm going to stand here and make a good swing as best I can.
Today they all pretty much did go in the fairway. I missed one. Really I missed the 5th fairway. I got a nice kick off a tree into the fairway. I kept making good swings, and they all, mostly, ended up pretty good today.
