Quick Quotes

Q. Garrick, you said you feel like your game is very similar to yesterday. What did you feel like worked the best for you today?

GARRICK HIGGO: I don't know what worked the best, but my tee shots were similar to yesterday, like I kept it in play. For me, whenever I think -- obviously for everybody else as well, like the more fairways, the more greens I can hit, like I feel like I can take advantage of my putter, give myself a lot of looks, and I'll make my fair share.

Q. Is kind of keeping it in the fairway here -- I know it's key in a lot of places, but especially with the rough -- trying to be able to control your approach shots into the greens?

GARRICK HIGGO: It's not too narrow, but the Bermuda rough this week is definitely thick enough where it makes controlling the distance really tough. Obviously when you do hit the fairway, you have a good look. You're not really hitting that many long irons this week.

Q. You talked to Todd about changing your swing and completely overhauling it with Sean Foley. What do you think has been the biggest thing he was able to change in your swing that's helped you right now?

GARRICK HIGGO: I think overall just having more control of the face, and like a few things have done that, being a bit wider, slightly weaker grip or left hand. It's not just one thing. It's kind of everything together.

Q. What went into the decision to go to Foley to work on your swing?

GARRICK HIGGO: Just his record. I met him at the U.S. Open, my first U.S. Open at Torrey, and we've always been good friends. Just look at what he did with Michael Kim.

Q. How long did it take to overhaul your swing? What sort of process does that look like?

GARRICK HIGGO: We started the week of Colonial in 2023. It wasn't fun. I obviously played terrible last year. If you look at how I used to swing it till now, it's completely different. That whole time frame, it's tough to play competitive. It's tough to play -- compete when you're on your best, never mind when you're changing things.

Q. Did you ever consider like cutting it off and saying I'm going back to the old swing?

GARRICK HIGGO: No.

Q. And then avoiding surgery, what was that decision like? Was it like 50-50 or pretty obvious I don't want to have surgery?

GARRICK HIGGO: It wasn't obvious. It wasn't hurting me in my swing, but walking made it really bad, and then it would pinch the next day. So just figuring out how I can avoid that. I've changed the way I work out, just being a bit more clever with that, I would say.

Q. Any pain now?

GARRICK HIGGO: Like 1 out of 10 at the moment. Just tired. It gets fatigued pretty quick.

Q. What are some of the things you changed in your workouts?

GARRICK HIGGO: Just less. I can lift pretty heavy, so not as heavy, just to keep the load off the joint. Just being aware of that and then doing more single leg stuff so it's more specific.

Q. You played with Scottie in the final round of the Procore. Did you learn anything from the way he went about his business and his approach and how he did things?

GARRICK HIGGO: Yeah, I learned a lot. I couldn't tell you how much I learned, but I learned so much just by watching. He's an inspiration for all of us. He's set the bar so high. It's just phenomenal how high his skill level is.

Obviously he's got a great mind too, but it's just amazing how good he hits the golf ball, and he's putting great, and he chips great. So yeah.
