Quick Quotes

Q. Finished now on a birdie in your first Sunday in the Sony Open. Just talk about playing the full week.

CHAN KIM: Yeah, it was a lot of fun first of all. I had a lot of friends and family come out and it was just nice to play at home. Would've been nice to play a little better, but first event of the season, I think I held it together pretty well.

You know, hopefully this will lead to some bigger things in the near future.

Q. For just Sony Open purposes, does this give you that extra confidence, motivation, to come back in the future and play into the weekend?

CHAN KIM: Oh, yeah, this event will forever be a stop in my books. You know, just to come back home, like I said, to play in front of all the locals, just brings back a lot of memories.

There is definitely some emotion tied in there, but, yeah, this will forever be a stop for me.

Q. And you kind of mentioned that first tournament of the year. You finished 6-under on the week. You mentioned hopefully leading to better things. What does that do for you when it comes to catapulting into the season?

CHAN KIM: Yeah, obviously this being the season opener for me, I needed to dial some stuff in. Simple things like warming up, what was I focusing on, what I was not focusing on.

We figured out I just needed to do a little bit more pace work when I start off first thing in the morning on the putting green.

I was too tied up on green reading stuff and trying to hit the six-footers. I just didn't get a general pace for the greens, and so I struggled the second day with pace. Then yesterday and today my pace was a lot better. Ended up making a few putts today from range.

Yeah, I think it helped me kind of realize what I need to put my focus into before my rounds, and, yeah, hopefully that will kind of carry on and I'll be more prepared once I get on the golf course.

Q. This is your first tournament this year. Do you already know what your next stop is?

CHAN KIM: Yeah, next so we're flying red eye over to LAX tonight, and then going to drive over to Palm Springs for Amex. So that will be my next stop.

Q. For the rest of the season, I know you just mentioned the putting and we saw you on your last hole there.

CHAN KIM: Yeah.

Q. Told your caddie you thought you had it. Is that confidence in the putting increasing?

CHAN KIM: Yeah, I felt good over a lot of putts the last two days. First day as well. And like I said, once I get the pace dialed in a little bit better, my reads tend to get better because they're more consistent.

You know, basically if you get the pace right it takes one variable out of play. Yeah, I felt really confident over every putt I hit. Hopefully I can kind of clean up some of the pace work and get better on green reading and make a few more putts.

Q. Fun one before you get on your red eye. What are you trying to grab to eat before you leave home?

CHAN KIM: Oh, man. That's a good question. Maybe some garlic shrimp or Loco Moco, or both, probably. Some candies for sure. We actually went to the Honolulu Cookie Company yesterday. Spent about $450. Not just for me. It's for everybody back in Arizona, too.

Definitely going to try and eat as much as I can before I get on this flight and I can sleep my way all the way there.
