Q. Nick, how much fun was that, six birdies, no bogeys on this golf course?
NICK TAYLOR: Yeah, it was great. It was kind of the round you're hoping for when you tee off in the morning here and there's soft conditions. The course is probably as gettable as it will be. Yeah, it was nice to get off to a great start and kind of sustain that. No bogeys is what I'm most proud of. It's a tough golf course to do that, so that was nice.
Q. What was the part of your game that was working really well?
NICK TAYLOR: I made a lot of solid putts, nothing crazy long, but made a lot of good putts inside 10, 12 feet. My iron game was very solid. Gave myself a lot of chances on that first nine. I played the par-5s great. I birdied three of the four. I think I was in around the greens on three of the four that made pretty easy birdies. That's pretty key out here, so try and take advantage of those holes.
Q. How important is it to come to an event like this with the form that you're in?
NICK TAYLOR: That's super important. Confidence is at a high, but being able to back that up, play the round and do a good one is nice. It's just a start here. Obviously the conditions will get tougher as the week goes on. Just be patient out here.
Q. It seems like you found maybe a new level of consistency this year. Is there anything you're focusing on, anything you've worked on that helps you achieve that?
NICK TAYLOR: I think it's just a build off of last year. I felt like really since the start of January 2023, it's been my most consistent golf in the last year and a bit. Stepping stones from Phoenix, finishing second a year and a bit ago to obviously winning twice only breeds confidence. I'm hopefully reaching that level where I can be consistently contending more often. But yeah, just kind of sticking to the same things.
