Q. Your match ends on the 12th hole and you get into the field when Sam Burns decides to withdraw. Things worked out pretty well for you today?
MAVERICK MCNEALY: Yeah, I was home last week, really hoping I'd get the chance to play, preparing like I was going to get a chance to play and had a nice round today for sure.
Q. Tell me how you were able to dominate this match against one of the best players in the world in Joaquin Niemann?
MAVERICK MCNEALY: That's exactly right, he's a great player and he's the type of guy that he can rattle off five birdies in a row at any given time.
So I knew I had to keep the pedal down and hopefully ran out of holes before that happened.
Q. In a format like this there's so much more golf to play, but what sort of foundation does a match like this against Niemann build for you?
MAVERICK MCNEALY: It's really good. More than anything mental and physical rest, I think that's key. Hopefully, it's going to be a long week and I can keep playing well. I really like the way I struck it today, I think we have a really good game plan for this golf course. And it suits my eye. I noticed that immediately when I got out here on Sunday evening, before I was in the field, and I said I really hope I get a chance to play because I love the way it looks.
