Q. You built a nice lead early in this match, 5-up at one point, but it took all the way to 17 to take out Tom Hoge today.
THOMAS PIETERS: Yeah, he struggled at the start, kind of gave away a couple holes, but he played unbelievable from 9. He made six birdies or seven birdies. It was actually tough at the end, yeah.
Q. Did you get to 17 and say, all right, let's take care of business right here? You hit it 143, just pushed it a little bit, about a foot to the right of the cup?
THOMAS PIETERS: Yeah, we had a really good number. The wind kind of died down for us, and yeah, just got lucky, went to a foot, and that was it.
Q. I think maybe different players put different emphasis on a first-round victory. How do you see it?
THOMAS PIETERS: I've never won my first round, and then you're kind of coming from behind. I think the percentage of getting through is very, very small if you don't win the first match. It's nice to have won this one and kind of build on that.
