Q. Tough match today. Obviously always a touch match with Ian. How would you summarize the match?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Didn't have many halved holes, I don't think, it was kind of swinging back and forth.
I got off to a solid start and then I made a couple mistakes on the front nine, my speed was a little bit off on the greens.
Then I played some really solid golf on the back nine to close out the match with two good putts on 15, 16, hit a really good shot in there on 17.
Q. Is it a little different this year, you're the top seed in your group and instead of kind of being the guy chasing, you're the guy they're hunting in the group?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Not really. I don't really think about that stuff too much. I was the technically the highest seed versus the lowest seed in my group today, but if you looked at like gambling odds I'm sure they probably weren't a crazy disparity on who was supposed to win that match.
You never really know what's going to happen in this tournament so I don't think the seeding is too important. But if you had the top four players in the world it would obviously be a little different, but it's nice to have them spread out a little bit.
Q. What was working so well in your game today?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I just played consistent. I kind of hung in there. Golf course was playing tough today with how firm it was and the wind bounces around everywhere. So I kind of knew there would be a few mistakes and I made some early, but I really hung in there towards the end and made some really key putts.
Q. Does it help knowing this golf course in different conditions the way you do to know, okay, I know where the wind is coming from and how this course is going to play?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I can play some of these holes, especially the start, like probably 2 and 3 and 4, I could play -- I could drop 15 balls in that fairway and get a different wind direction on every ball. So there's no secrets on the wind or anything like that. It's definitely nice to have some familiarity with the course, but with the wind it literally comes from everywhere.
Q. It's important to win your first match. What does this do for your mindset?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Nothing much changes. I think I got Fleetwood tomorrow and I'm going to go home and get some rest and get prepared for that.
