Quick Quotes

Q. Can you talk about just your thoughts going to the weekend because it's been a while since you've done that here at this event.

ADAM SCOTT: It's hard to get there when I don't play in the event.

Q. That's true.

ADAM SCOTT: Yeah, it has. I didn't even know. Must have been 2003 was it?

Q. '4, I think.

ADAM SCOTT: '4? There you go. I liked it at La Costa. You remember that it was at La Costa?

Q. Seemed to rain a lot.

ADAM SCOTT: It did, I don't know. But I liked playing there. But I played well today. I'm happy to get through that group. I thought it was -- they're all tough groups, but there were four major champions in this group, and that kind of caliber player obviously knows how to get it done and has some toughness, so I'm glad to get through.

Q. How much confidence can you take getting out of a group like that, where your game is at?

ADAM SCOTT: Yeah, I felt it was good. I mean, a bit of a shaky match with Justin. Neither of us played particularly well, but I played well in the next two. Now kind of have a run at it over the weekend and see what happens. I feel like I've got everything I need ahead of the Masters, obviously. Even though there's a great event on the line this weekend, everyone is thinking about Augusta, it's so close.

Q. When you talk about going ahead, Billy Horschel talked about it early in the week how exhausting this week can be. Do you start trying to pace yourself with the idea of what is in two weeks?

ADAM SCOTT: Well, it'll all depend how much golf is played on the weekend now for me. Going all the way next week is going to be a lot of rest and less golf, and that's a good thing. That's only a good thing because if you play deep in the weekend the confidence will be high, no doubt. If I only play one match, then it's a normal week, and just carry on. But it feels good to get to the weekend. For some reason getting out of the group feels like a real accomplishment at this tournament.

Q. It seems to me you value longevity in your career, which you've been able to accomplish over a long time. You mentioned La Costa. I don't know if you know anything about Richard Bland, but the fact that he won for the first time at 48 last year on the European Tour, is trying to qualify for the Masters for the first time, can you appreciate that story?

ADAM SCOTT: Yeah, absolutely. I mean, it's incredible. I obviously first met him 20-something years ago when he was on Tour when I first came on Tour, and he had been on Tour probably for a few years at that point.

I mean, he's a great journeyman pro in every sense of the word, and to persevere is incredible. It was quite a touching win really for him, and you love to see that because this game can be so brutal, and I'm sure there are times when he must have thought, why am I still doing it, and to persevere and then to win, and he's here this week playing well, and to be at a Masters is -- it is something unique about our sport that we can play well as long as we stay healthy, well into our 50s I would say. 60s if you're Bernhard Langer.
