Q. Defending champion get no respect, you have to go all the way to the 18th hole. What a clutch putt you made to get a full point.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I didn't have my best stuff today. Made too many mistakes throughout the round and had some chances to kind of put it away, made a few mistakes, but fortunately made a really nice putt there on 18.
Q. In order to win you've got to win a squeaker. You had to defeat Matt Fitzpatrick in extra holes last year. Maybe this was your squeaker today. Full point without your best stuff.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, full point is wonderful. Davis had a really good look there that I'm pretty sure he would have made if I didn't roll mine in, so it was nice to see that putt go in and get the full point.
Q. Years ago you beat Davis Riley; what was the key to taking him down today?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I got off to a really good start. Outside of that I didn't really play great and Davis didn't have his best stuff today, either.
Fortunately I saw a putt go in on 18 to finish out the match, and I did my best to try and stay patient. Made a few too many mistakes today that I felt like I could have put the match away a little bit earlier with how good of a start I got off to, but fortunate to come away with it today.
Q. What do you have to clean up going forward?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Just a few of those mistakes, maybe a few mental errors. And I felt like I hit some good putts and some bad ones today, and the good ones didn't go in, and the bad ones certainly didn't go in.
I'm going to remember that putt on the last hole and take that energy with me tomorrow.
