Q. You face Jordan Spieth in Austin, Texas, and beat him. What was the game plan when you started this morning?
TAYLOR MONTGOMERY: Just play as good as I could. My speed with the putter was not good, which is normally my strength, but I hit a lot of good wedge shots and some really good iron shots today, and it was barely enough. I'm still shaking. Was a little nervous coming down the stretch, but I'm glad I finished it off.
Q. How much of a turning point was 13? The start of three wins in a row from you when Jordan hit it into the water?
TAYLOR MONTGOMERY: Yeah, that was a huge point in the match. I wasn't feeling good, obviously, with the putter at all today, and it helped knowing that he was in the water on 13.
But that's match play. Him and I were back and forth all day. He had a lead, I had a lead, and it was a really fun match.
Q. 2 & 1 victory over Jordan Spieth. You ran through Shane Lowry yesterday. What were some of the keys to you playing well today?
TAYLOR MONTGOMERY: I don't know. Match play is hard. It feels like you're trying to finish out a tournament every single hole. I love it because that's what I play back home, and it helps if you make a 6 or a 7 and you just go to the next. But it was a fun day.
Q. Jordan made a couple bogeys coming down 13 and 14. How key was that for you to start to take a little bit of a lead, especially 2-up after you birdied the 15th hole?
TAYLOR MONTGOMERY: Yeah, it was a huge point. Gave me a 2-up lead going into the final three holes. That was kind of when you start thinking, oh, could win this thing. Happy that I birdied the 17th to finish it off.
Q. How much confidence do you build taking down a player like Shane Lowry yesterday, taking down Jordan Spieth, because it was very apparent that he was the crowd favorite following your round today.
TAYLOR MONTGOMERY: Yeah, just hopefully I don't play any more Texan guys like Scottie where I have to hear "hook 'em" the entire round (chuckling).
