Quick Quotes

Q. I have a feeling how you're going to answer this, but just kind of sum up the week and how everything kind of played out.

RORY McILROY: Obviously didn't come in here with a ton of reps, almost felt like the more the week went on, the more I felt lost with my golf swing a little bit.

I figured it out a little bit the last few holes today, I think. Yeah, I just sort of -- yeah, swing wasn't in sync and obviously didn't do a ton of practice coming in here.

I guess nice to shake the rust off a little bit, but I'm going to have to work pretty hard between now and next Thursday to feel like I have any sort of golf game to compete next week.

Q. What do you feel like the next couple days look like for you as far as that goes?

RORY McILROY: I'm going to go home. I'll work with Michael and Harry. Yeah, just try to get the swing into some sort of better sync and better flow. Then, yeah, go to Bellerive Tuesday and obviously try to prepare for that golf course.

Yeah, to me it's more about obviously the execution of what I'm doing right now, and the execution wasn't there this week. As I said, I'm going to have to sort of put the head down and grind from now until Thursday to try to feel like I have any sort of chance next week.

Q. Was there one element of your game that felt more off than you were expecting, or is it more just overall a timing thing?

RORY McILROY: It's just overall. I think as well when you're sort of working through some stuff in your swing, then you start to -- I certainly do sometimes start to lose awareness of the target and start to like -- you start to make the golf swing more important than the golf shots sometimes, and that's obviously not a good thing either.

It's sort of like that happy medium of you wanting to get some feels in the golf swing, but at the same time still trying to play golf out there and just thinking of the golf swing, which I sort of after the bad finish on Thursday, I felt like I was just thinking of my golf swing the last few days.

As I said, felt a little bit better coming in today, but just need to do some work on it.

Q. You had mentioned entering the week looking at it as a 12-round tournament essentially with the playoffs. Does the blank slate in St. Louis offer you some upside to start from scratch and go again?

RORY McILROY: Yeah, it does obviously, but again, at the same time, I'm so far away from where I need to be to even feel like I have a chance. Yeah, I've just got to keep working and hope it turns around a little bit.

Q. Play Bellerive once?

RORY McILROY: Yeah, just in the PGA.

Q. Five birdies in the last ten holes. Is there something you can take from that to kind of get some momentum going next week into the BMW?

RORY McILROY: Yeah, a little bit. I definitely felt like I found a feel out there that might work on the golf course. Yeah, I hit some better shots coming in for sure. Still a few loose ones as well, but five birdies coming in was definitely there's some signs of encouragement there.
