Q. Good start. One bad bounce. How did you settle down in the round.
CAMERON YOUNG: It didn't change much. It's one of those, it wasn't my best shot. With a good bounce it's not in the water, with an average bounce it's kind of close. I happened to get a bad one. I can't be mad for hitting driver, 6-iron at the middle of the green on 1. This place is difficult and it will do that to you. So, yeah, good reminder that today wasn't going to be easy and I think kind of set the tone for how the rest of the day went just in terms of grinding through it and trying to make the best of the opportunities you do get.
Q. A nice putt at 5, a chip-in at 6, a really solid swing off the tee at 4 to get into this round. Where did you feel like you found a little rhythm on this Saturday?
CAMERON YOUNG: It's hard to say. I feel like it was a little bit difficult to find a rhythm just the wind and the direction that it blew today was really tricky. I mean, I feel like every hole was a substantial cross wind. Especially when you get a hole like 10 with the water left, wind blowing hard off the left, and I don't love cutting it all the time. It's one of those that's just not comfortable. I feel like there's a good few of those out there today. It's really just a matter of trying to manage that and give yourself as many opportunities as you can.
Q. How do you prepare for that challenge knowing what the challenge was today to go and pull this thing off tomorrow?
CAMERON YOUNG: I think today was kind of a good test run of how tomorrow will be. I'm sure it will not be as easy as I want it to be. Sounds like the weather's not going to be great. It will be a fight from the beginning and just looking to execute the way that I did for the most part today. Just keep it in front of me and try to make some putts.
Q. Was today the most challenging with the wind?
CAMERON YOUNG: By far. Especially if you were out in the morning either of the last two days I feel like it was pretty calm. Today it definitely was blowing. I feel like it was blowing harder earlier and then really picked up as we got to 10, 12, 13, in there, it was blowing pretty good.
Q. How uncomfortable, I guess what makes the most uncomfortable tee shot or any shot really when it gets like this?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, just the crosswinds. Especially when it's straight across. That's not as much of an issue with tee shots, but then when it's blowing this hard straight across, 10 percent hurt or 10 percent help can make a huge difference in the yardage. So you have to be really intentional about what shot shape you're playing and what number you pick, just because the wind does fluctuate and even if it seems straight off the right or straight off the left those little switches to a little help or a little hurt can make a huge difference in how far the ball will go.
Q. Three days into the tournament now, what could you say about just the course's conditions and how they have held up?
CAMERON YOUNG: It's in great shape. Fairways are really good. The greens are starting to dry out a little bit just with the wind and the sun. But obviously that's not going to be a problem tomorrow. Yeah, I think the course has held up great. The rough is doable but still penal in you're in the wrong places and, yeah, I think they did a really nice job of it.
Q. How do you feel like the conditions have played a positive role into how you've attacked the game?
CAMERON YOUNG: How the conditions? Sorry?
Q. Played a role in how you had success on the course.
CAMERON YOUNG: Got it. I think I tend to play well at difficult golf courses, difficult setups, difficult conditions. This is all of those things. I think it plays into my hands a little bit. Mentally it's a little easier for me when the scoring is not so low. Yeah, just feel like I've done my job well the last few days.
Q. We all know no lead is safe and you saw firsthand at the Masters how people chased down Rory with a six-shot lead on the second day. So that being said, what do you do now preparing to go into tomorrow and forget you're ahead by six shots?
CAMERON YOUNG: I don't think there's any reason to forget. But it won't change really how I play. Especially the front nine. I may be a hair more conservative in a place or two, but with the weather looking the way it does, that would be how I would be playing anyway. So, yeah, I said it yesterday, no lead is safe I don't think out here. I would love it to be 12, but it's five or, I don't know, five or six. Yeah, I'm going to go try to execute my plan as if I'm right around the lead or just trying to have a good day out there, not necessarily with any thought toward where I'm at in the tournament.
Q. Your warm-up session today with a 5-shot lead. Do you do anything different out there? And then I noticed you had an ear plug in. Would you share what music you might listen to when you do your warmup?
CAMERON YOUNG: Honestly, most of the time it's not on anything. I have it like read my texts out to me or like a message from somebody. But, yeah, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.
Q. You had a real strong Bay Hill, won PLAYERS, strong at the Masters. What is it about tough golf courses that brings out the best in you?
CAMERON YOUNG: I think it mentally makes it easier for me to focus shot to shot. When you feel like you have to birdie every hole, and you feel like you're losing when you make a par, I think that's proven to be more difficult for me. Difficult golf courses I think it just forces you to focus on what you're doing and kind of the task at hand. That's what it requires on a setup like this. If you get thinking about what just happened or what's going to happen, you can lose yourself out there pretty quick. It's just really about staying right where you are and focusing on the task at hand.
