Jannik Sinner

Mixed Zone Interview

J. SINNER/N. Kyrgios

7-6, 6-3

Q. You said after the match you tried to stay in the moment when everything else was going crazy. How difficult is it being on the other end of the court when everything is going...

JANNIK SINNER: It is tough, of course, but I think I have done a great job today, because usually you don't play many matches like this, so you have to be in the present moment, as I said, and I think I have done a great job about that.

Also, I knew before the match that I had to raise the level a little bit, because, you know, he's the kind of player who push a lot the ball. When he's serving well, also his return gets better. I tried to stay there every point, which I have done, so I think it was a positive match.

Q. Did you understand why he was getting so upset?

JANNIK SINNER: Oh, ask him. I mean, I don't know. What I understood, the court there is a little bit different than the center court. He usually played on the center court, which he said it was a little bit slower. The rest, I didn't understood.

I mean, I just tried to stay in my zone, and, yeah, I think that was the right choice.

Q. There was a lot of excitement going into this match, because you guys hadn't played each other. How did it live up to the hype for you?

JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, we were supposed to play in Indian Wells obviously. I couldn't play there unfortunately, and now we had here, had the rematch.

I think it was an exciting match for both of us, getting to know us a little bit. I think I have done a great job trying to be concentrated on my side. I think that was the key today.

Q. Have you ever played a match where you really had to stay that focused? There was obviously a lot going on in that match.

JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, I had one. I don't know, I tried to learn and improve from my mistakes, which I think today I have done better than the previous time. You know, there is still a lot to show, so let's see.

Q. You have had a lot of success here in Miami. What's most comfortable for you here?

JANNIK SINNER: I like the crowd. I like the situation here.

Obviously there is still -- every match to win here or to play against is very tough. Everyone deserves to be where he is. So the quarterfinals is going to be a tough match, and I hope I will be prepared.
