Carlos Alcaraz

Press Conference

C. ALCARAZ/R. Carballes Baena

6-2, 6-1

THE MODERATOR: How difficult was it to adapt from the conditions in Indian Wells to Miami?

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Well, it was difficult with the humidity, the court, the balls, everything. It was difficult to adapt my game to these conditions.

But I think I did pretty well. I'm really happy with my performance. Physically it was really tough for me. 6-2, 6-1. It seems like it was a third set, really long match. Really, really happy with the level that I hit the ball, that I solved everything. Hopefully keep going.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Can you compare the balls? Andy Murray said the conditions are even slower than in Indian Wells. The bounce was much higher.

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Yeah, Indian Wells it was much higher. Probably the court is faster, but the ball goes slower. Yeah, that's different. The balls become bigger after just one game. Is crazy. New balls goes super fast, then after one game super slow. It was difficult to adapt in that way.

But, yeah, the first game, it's crazy, then it's super slow.

Q. This was your 11th straight victory against Spaniards. What is the difference between what you've been doing and your other compats have been doing?

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Today's match?

Q. Yes. You've been beating a lot of them for a long time. Do you see anything different from your style of game between your other compats?

CARLOS ALCARAZ: I mean, every player has his own style. But probably mine is a little bit different to other Spaniards' style. Anyway, I think other Spanish players have similar style than mine.

I don't know. Comparing to Carballes, I'm more aggressive. I think my ball goes faster. I have a lot of things that I can do on the court. Probably that's the difference from today's match.

But I don't know, I think it's depend on the player. I think there are players that have similar styles than mine.

Q. I don't know if you saw Andy Murray tweeted at the end of your match that watching you makes him smile. How nice is it to have your success but your style is so entertaining, so much respect from your colleagues?

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Well, it's great. As I say many times, I play for myself, I play for my team. But also I enjoy if the people enjoy watching my matches, my games. For me, it's pretty cool.

I think for me it's even better if a legend like Andy say something like this, that he enjoy a lot watching my matches. It's crazy for me, honestly. I think he has seen a lot of tennis during his career, a lot of matches, a lot of players. See these words from him for me is great. It's something I try to do it in every match.

Q. We don't know yet who you've got, but if you can look at Jordan Thompson or if you have to play Gael Monfils.

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Well, I played against each other, against both of them. I think in a certain way they have similar styles. They are tough on the baseline. Probably Thompson going to the net more frequently. Both of them are great players.

It's going to be a really tough match. Gael is playing a great tennis. Has beaten big guys this year. I have to be ready if I'm going to play against Gael.

Against Jordan, yeah, against him, I played in Cincinnati last year. It was third set. I know it's going to be a really difficult one, a challenging one. Let's see who I'm going to play.
