A. KONTAVEIT/M. Sakkari
6-1, 3-6, 6-3
THE MODERATOR: A great week, ending a great year for you. What are your initial reflections?
MARIA SAKKARI: I mean, it's disappointing. I had chances obviously. It's tough to accept losing that way. Yeah, that's it.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Could you talk through the last service game from 40-Love up. What do you think went wrong?
MARIA SAKKARI: I think I made twice same mistake when I was a break up. Serving on the game, I just saw the finish line. Things went downhill.
Q. With your season over, is it possible for you to put into context what you did this season, how proud you are, or is it a little too tough at the moment?
MARIA SAKKARI: I mean, obviously I'm more emotional than I should be. It's been, of course, a very good season. It's very disappointing the way it ended today.
Q. You've had some rough luck in the semis this year. Is that one of the things that's going to serve as motivation for you this off-season for what I am sure is going to be a great 2022?
MARIA SAKKARI: Thank you so much.
I mean, it's just very tough for me to talk about all this. Today was, I have to say, a missed opportunity from my side. It's definitely from my side. Obviously there's a lot of respect from my side to Anett's game, personality.
I think today I was just very close on taking that chance. I just wasted it. That's why it hurts so much. It's not that it was just bad luck, it's that I threw away another chance. It hurts.
Of course, it's something that once I rest and just think of what I have achieved this year, I think it's something that obviously I want to work on, especially mentally.
